3
Research Issues
  • Richard
  • Information content in measurements and
    permissible arithmetics
  • Upscaling - downscaling

  • How to build 3D models from sparce data and find
    visualization procedures
  • How do we estimate, understand and visualize 3D
    uncertainty
  • Ole
  • How to get good data for rel. perms.
  • Scaling of lab data to reservoir scale
  • Thierry
  • Converting geological concepts to quantitative
    models
  • How to select equiprobable reali-zations within a
    geological concept
  • Cyril
  • phase saturation measurements
  • uncertainty in measurements
  • Emmanuel
  • Formulation of dual mechanical-fluid interacting
    systems
  • Are poro-elastic assumptions valid for very
    viscous fluids?
  • Jon
  • Fundamental concept of rel. perm. and cap. press.
    - do we understand?
  • Reservoir measurements for conditioning of models
  • Alf
  • Measurement uncertainty in relative
    permeabilities
  • Accounting for capillarity in relative
    permeability measurements

4
Subgroup discussions
  • Laboratory measure-ments, concepts, and
    uncertainties
  • Cyril
  • Ole
  • Alf
  • Thierry
  • Spacial uncertainties, reservoir measure-ments,
    and modelling
  • Emmanuel
  • Roar
  • Richard
  • Jon

5
Micro scale
  • Description of physical problems
  • IFT, wettability spreading coefficient
  • Two- three - phase configuration
  • Input in pore network model
  • rel.perm, phase saturation
  • Compare lab. measurements

6
Lab. measurements
  • Controversy on results
  • Different method for each process
  • Difficulty on measuring relative permeability
  • Importance to increase the quality of data

7
Spacial uncertainties, reservoir measurements,
and modelling
  • Representativeness of parameters and models
  • What are the REVs for f, k, Kr, Pc,...
  • Knowing parameters, REVs and uncertainties, how
do we model the dynamic behavior at small
    scale?
  • What parameters need to be upscaled to large
scale, how do we do it, and what are the
    limitations of validity? Tensor represen-tation
of parameters and proper process description are
    important.
  • Need better measurements in space and time of
reservoir scale properties for conditioning of
models which use upscaled small scale
    parameters
  • Downscaling of reservoir measurements
  • Better visualization of parameters, uncertainty
    and behavior

8
Multiphase flow group
  • Sophie Galinat
  • Jørn Kjølaas
  • Christophe Conan
  • Fabien Renault

9
Agenda
  • Field of research

  • Potential for interaction
  • Conclusion

10
Field of research
  • NTNU Multiphase Lab, Trondheim
  • Small scale, atmospheric
  • Applied research
  • SINTEF Multiphase Lab, Tiller
  • Large scale, real conditions pressure
  • Direct industrial applications
  • LGC Multiphase Group IMFT, Toulouse
  • Micro scale phenomena and implications
  • Emphasis on fundamentals

11
Experimental facilities
  • NTNU
  • Straight acrylic 6 3 cm ID, 16m 15º
  • Straight steel 6 , 16m 15º
  • Flexible acrylic 5 cm ID 16m
  • S riser
  • L riser

12
Experimental facilities
  • SINTEF
  • Medium scale 6.9 cm ID, 200m 1º
  • Large scale 19 cm ID, 1000m 1º
  • LGC multiphase group
  • Vertical section 3 cm ID
  • Straight acrylic 5 cm ID, 10m
  • IMFT steel 30m

13
Common interest
  • Oil/water flow is clearly a shared topic of
    research
  • Christophe (Toulouse) experiments and modelling
  • Trygve (NTNU) computing schemes
  • Karolina (Imperial College visiting NTNU)
    caracterisation of inversion point.
  • Monika (NTNU) Influence of water on slug flow

14
Potential for Interaction
  • Marie Curie training sites
  • Visiting PhDs come for 6 months
  • Possibility to use the available loops
  • Interest validate the results on another loop
    (different fluids, diameter, )
  • Sharing of data possible

15
Conclusion
  • As a common interest has been found between the
two laboratories, contact should be kept in the
    future.
  • Open invitation to visit NTNU
  • Possible Dr.Ing meeting in Pau with visit of
    local facilities (IMFTLGC)

16
Seismic Group Group
  • Alexandre EGRETEAU

  • Amir GHADERI
  • Frederic JONCOUR
  • Martin LANDRØ
  • Sylvain NGUYEN
  • Thomas RØSTE

17
  • SUMMARY of seismic discussions at Røros 24th
    October
  • Strong similarities between Sylvain and Stig
Kyrres work. Stig Kyrre and Bjørn Ursin will
    discuss further with Gilles Lambare.
  • Time-lapse migration of CO2-filled lenses. Martin
will contact Philippe Thierry on this issue.
  • Alexandre will consider to work on thin-bed AVO
next year. This might be well aligned with work
going on in Trondheim, both Bjørn and Martin.
  • Overburden effects on AVO (Martin to discuss with
    Philippe)
  • Adam Gosselet works on 4C-related things, Sylvain
will ask Adam to send a mail to Thomas in order
to check similarities and possibilities for
    cooperation.
