  • OFFSIDE DEFINED A player is offside when
  • He is in an offside position
  • At the moment the ball is played by or

  • And is involved in active play.
  • (All 3 conditions must be met!)
  • OFFSIDE POSITION (OSP) A player is in an offside
    position when
  • Ahead of the ball
  • Ahead of the 2nd last defender (SLD)
  • And not in own half of field
  • (Not an offence by itself. )
  • ACTIVE PLAY (Defined by FIFA) A player is
    involved in active play when
  • Interfere with play (Play or be touched by the
    ball)
  • Interfere with an opponent (impede or prevent an
    opponent from playing the ball)
  • Gain an advantage (Interfere with play after a
    rebound)
  • EXCEPTIONS A player cannot be offside directly
    from a goal kick, corner kick, or throw-in.
