TRV (Visitor Visa) Process
  • Citizens of some countries require a temporary
    resident visa (TRV) commonly called an entry
    visa to enter Canada. This visa may be valid for
    one or multiple entries.
  • Check the link to see if you will need a TRV

  • A TRV may be valid for single or multiple entry.
  • The current fee for a single entry is Cnd 75 and
    multiple entry is Cnd 150.

  • You must apply outside of Canada at the Canadian
    Consulate in Seattle (www.canadainternational.gc.
    ca/seattle/index.aspx)
  • Seattle only accepts money orders and bank drafts
    made payable to the Receiver General for
    Canada(No cash, personal cheque or credit card).

  • You will need to mail the following to the
    Canadian Consulate
  • School letter from Kwantlens Registrars office
    indicating your registration status. Complete the
    International Student Confirmation of Enrolment
    (Blue) form.
  • Official transcript. Please fill the Official
    Transcript Request form.
  • Application forms IMM 5257 (once your
    application is completed, click on the Validate
    button to generate a unique barcode, Family
    Information IMM 5645 and Document checklist IMM
    5484. These forms can be found at
    www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/vis

TRV (Visitor Visa) Process
  • You will need to mail the following to the
    Canadian Consulate
  • Two Photos meeting required specifications (see
    next slide for instructions.) On the back, write
    your name and date of birth.
  • Your original, valid passport.
  • Photocopy of your Study Permit and/or Work
    Permit.
  • Proof of financial support. You will need to go
    to your bank and ask for a bank statement.
  • Payment for TRV 75 CAD for single entry, 150
    CAD for multiple entry. You must pay with a money
    order, cashiers cheque or bank draft made
    payable to the RECEIVER GENERAL FOR CANADA.

  • Provide two photos of you and each accompanying
    family member with your application. Frame size
    must be 35 mm X 45 mm (1 3/8? X 1 3/4?).

  • The Canadian Consulate only accepts FedEx courier
    service (www.fedex.ca).
  • You need to create a FedEx account. No cash or
    credit card payment allowed as per Seattle,
    Canadian Consulate.

  • You will need to send TWO envelopes (one to send
    your package and one to receive your TRV
    returned.) Place the small (return) envelope,
    inside the large (sending) envelope.

Sending envelope Pre-paid and with your name and
address as the sender and the Canadian Consulate
as the receiver.
Return envelope Pre-paid and with your name and
address as the sender and receiver

  • Please enclose with your application a
    self-addressed return envelope. FEDEX Courier If
    First Class Mail is not acceptable, please
    enclose with your application a completed air
    waybill and a return courier envelope for FedEx.
    You must fill in your name and address as both
    the sender and the recipient on the waybill. The
    Consulate's address must not appear on the
    waybill. You must enter your valid FedEx account
    number in the appropriate billing information
    box.

  • A valid passport You passport should be valid
    for at least 6 months past your intended stay in
    US.
  • Complete the DS-160 electronic form

  • For your records Print the confirmation page
    with the barcode
  • Schedule an Appointment online

  • Visa Category B for Tourist/Personal Travel.
  • Pay the non-refundable fee of US 140 at Scotia

  • Valid Passport and valid Canadian study
    permit/work permit.
  • Official transcripts from all institution you
    attended in Canada and outside.
  • Enrolment letter from Kwantlen.
  • From your online account, print the courses you
    have registered for a future term if applicable
    and tuition receipts for current semester and
    future semester if applicable.
  • If you are currently employed, a letter from your
    employer.
  • Specific details of your proposed trip (intended
    destinations, dates of travel, U.S contact phone
    numbers).
  • Name and relationship of persons travelling with
    you.

  • Evidence to demonstrate economic and social ties
    to Canada and your home country (examples include
    bank letters or statements, rental
    agreements/property title, proof of car
    ownership, etc.)
  • Take a pre-paid Canada Post Xpresspost envelope.
  • Note The U.S. Consulate may ask for all or none
    of the information listed above, however it is
    best to go prepared.

encouraged to come well-prepared to their
appointment. This includes preparing questions
ahead of time and doing preliminary research on
program requirements for their chosen educational

Enrolment Services department at any campus or
call 604.599.2000. Surrey appointments can also
be booked at the Surrey Counselling office.
Drop-in appointments Surrey and Richmond
Campus Monday to Friday 1100am to 1200pm
and 100pm to 200pmDrop-in appointments consist
of 10-minute individual appointments for students
with very specific questions.  Please contact the
Student Enrolment Services (604-599-2000) to find
out when our advisors are available to assist
students at drop-ins (Surrey campus drop-ins
can be booked at the Surrey Counselling office.)
Drop-in schedule subject to international
educational advisor availability, please confirm
by calling 604.599.2000 before you come in.
