Title: Writing the Research Proposal

1
Writing the Research Proposal
2
Five Components
  • 1. Statement or the Nature of the Problem
  • 2. The research question
  • 3. Survey of the literature
  • 4. Research design
  • 5. References

3
Literature Search
4
Research Proposal
  • Flexible but should be used as a blueprint.
  • Thorough and complete.
  • The proposal is an evidence of the quality of the
    research that is planned.

5
Components of a Research Proposal
  • 1. Statement or the nature of the problem.
  • 2. The research question.
  • 3. Survey of the literature.
  • 4. Research design.
  • 5. References.

6
The proposal should anwer the following four
questions
  • - What is the issue or the problem?
  • - What specific question will you attempt to
    answer?
  • - How will you attempt to answer the question?
  • - Do you have adequate sources?

7
Surveying the Literature
8
  • Literature survey is the documentation of a
comprehensive review of the published and
unpublished work from secondary sources data in
the areas of specific interest to the researcher.
  • The library is a rich storage base for secondary
data and researchers used to spend several weeks
and sometimes months going through books,
    journals, newspapers, magazines, conference
    proceedings, doctoral dissertations, master's
    theses, government publications and financial
reports to find information on their research
    topic.
  • With computerized databases now readily available
and accessible the literature search is much
speedier and easier and can be done without
entering the portals of a library building.

    research question would fit?
  • Search Journal of Economic Literature and

  • Search by using a database other than JEL and
