Aims of the Study
  • To identify the different types of leisure
  • activities young people engage in
  • To identify the amount of time young people
  • have for leisure
  • To identify the barriers to Leisure

  • The study was proposed to the Commissioner for
    Children by the Young People on the Council for
    Children
  • The study was carried out in collaboration with
    the National Youth Agency
  • The Leisure Patterns of Young People aged
    between 13 and 31 were analysed in order to be
    able to have a base for further periodic studies
  • A quantitative study involving a selected random
    sample of 3000 Maltese young people was carried
    out

    likely to select walking, craft-making and dance.
  • Males demonstrate a desire to be physically
    active through hunting and sports.

  • 54.4 spend time playing computer games
  • 51.4 spending time on social networking sites

The Study Points out the important role that
leisure plays in relieving stress, particularly
as young people face the challenges and
transitions to further education, work and
independent living. It is yet another indicator
of the positive role that leisure can play in
achieving a fulfilling work-life balance.
