INDICATIONS PRECAUTIONS CONTRAINDICATIONS
Increased pulmonary secretions course breath sounds reduced/absent breath sounds spontaneous coughing ineffective cough increased peak inspiratory pressures/decreased tidal volumes worsening 02 sat/ABGs to obtain sputum sample to stimulate cough reflex hypoxic respiratory drive ? O2 saturation (gt 4) atelectasis mucosal fragility benign arrhythmia bronchospasm use aseptic technique ? 10-12 seconds severe ? O2 saturation (lt 92) ? intracranial pressure (ICP) haemoptysis malignant arrhythmia hyperinflation post CABG and head injury
