21SLD Working Group Update
- Mark Burton (Greensocs), Sept 30, 2010
22Summary
- Platform release made. No feedback to date.
- Mostly on track for a release in Q3 including
adapters. - Connection to EDAs currently still dead.
23Other work in the WG Not Much!
- Currently we are seriously struggling. There is
no longer much GreenSocs resource. TI and Sonics
provide some, but can not make major
contributions.
24SLD WG Status
25The SLD Mid-Term Vision - unchanged
- OUR KIT IS HIGH QUALITY, AND STABLE..
- Ensure that OCP users have a 'complete' modelling
infrastructure available - multiple levels of abstraction (pure-functional
to cycle-accurate) and use models (software
development, architecture exploration, etc) - completeness means
- bus interface , performance monitoring interface
,system debug interface and configuration
interface - Make this modelling infrastructure standards
compliant. - E.g. drive existing OCP-IP experience and
expertise into OSCI-TLM - Maintain alignment between OSCI-TLM OCP-IP

49Asia Results
50Asia Japan Status
- Website good activity continues
- Key Relationships Toshiba, Synopsys (CoWare),
Sonics, VDEC, STARC and EDA Express - Members 18 total (0 new Japanese members since
last GSC meeting) - Extremely successful 200 attendee seminar given
in Yokohama in May 2008. This was our last
physical presence in Japan except for ongoing
collateral distributions through CoWare (now
Synopsys) and Sonics. - Non-members we know (confidentially and
confidently) are using OCP Canon, Sharp,
Fuji-Xerox, Sony and more! - WIP
- VDEC scheduled to appear in advertising their
work in Jan 2011 newsletter university corner - Routinely adding relevant content to Japanese Web
site (Some in last quarter) - We are aware of non-members purchasing
verification IP for OCP We dont have full
visibility into contact names within companies. - Ian scheduled to present at JSNUG on Oct. 15th
- Japanese economic turmoil still prevents active
collaboration activity with STARC (TLM based) and
general recruitment or approaches to previously
paying members.
50
51Asia Japan Status (contd)
- Next Steps
- If and when STARC recovers financially approach
again on TLM collaboration. - Continue to leverage Toshibas strong help and
support to drive membership in light of their
discontinued GSC participation and financially
struggling OCP-user (and all others!) companies
in Japan. Have begun REC approach through
Yoshimori-san, which complements Vesas activity
through aquired Nokia modem group into Renasis - Re-approach financially strapped Japanese
corporations when recovery clearly underway -
Still not yet, but Ian will arrange a few
meetings during JSNUG visit
51
52Asia Taiwan Status
- Website Leveraging existing simplified Chinese
and English Web sites - Key Relationships ITRI, Global Unichip Realtek
- Members 8 total (0 new Taiwanese member since
last GSC meeting) - ITRI helped with TSCUG promotion in Nov 2009 and
ITRI approached us to pay their delinquent
membership fee last month (August 2010) - Met with representatives of Global Unichip,
Mediatek, Realtek, and TSMC during November 2009
visit - WIP Participated in 2H09 Debug/ESL seminar with
ITRI, TSCUG (Nov 16, 2009) - This gave us some good local OCP representation
- Still posting important information on Chinese
website - Govt has withdrawn financial support for
ESL-type activity - Next Steps
- Review opportunity for participation at ITRI ESL
event in Nov unlikely travel addition - Maintain connections with ITRI contact Alan Su
despite govt funding setbacks - Continue pushing Alan Su at Global Unichip for
ongoing PR and collaboration opportunities
52
53Asia Korea Status
- Website Active 5/05 activity OK, small market
- Key Relationship KETI
- KETI appear to be driving SIP coordination
initiative - Members 5 total (0 new Korean member since last
GSC meeting) - Recent input via Sonics sales suggests most
candidate SoC teams are AMBA-based and heavily
driven by ARM. Synopsys / Cadence comment? - Samsung is an OCP user and it is possible OCP
interest will expand in more groups and motivate
membership - WIP Post relevant key announcements on Korean
website - Next Steps
- Still seeking Samsung long-term membership via
GSC relationships - Re-establish viable contacts with KETI
53
54Asia China Status
- Website Active 5/05 activity healthy and second
to Japanese Web site level - Key Relationships SSIPEX, Harbin/IPGC, CSIP,
- Members 11 total ( No new Chinese member since
last GSC meeting) - Have provided much guidance on standards body
membership - Lack of contact leaves our knowledge regarding
standards progress out-of-date. - Renewed both CSIP and SSIPEX contracts for 2
years in 1QCY08 - Ancient History
- Both CSIP and SSIPEX received OCP Training in
2005 - Turnovers in both organizations hamper promotions
and technical grasp of OCP - CSIP promoting OCP with all other IPGC standards
- SSIPEX struggle promoting OCP independently
- They have failed again since Ians 4Q06 visit
- We passed on SSIPEX event in Shanghai November
08 event and we passed again on Nov 09 event - Chinese government aggressively funding design
projects as part of domestic stimulus package in
late 2009 - Chinese underground (3 months ago) through
Pixelworks stating OCP being picked up in China - Any notable OCP usage recognized through Synopsys
or Cadence? - Next Steps
54
55Asia India and Russia Status
- Website None English language fully applicable
- Members 10 Indian / 0 Russian. 1 addition,
(TrueChip) since last GSC meeting - Past History
- All corporations visited (4Q06) offered
substantial and useful audiences AND word of
mouth OCP promotion - Visits to India did ultimately secure many of the
most visible corporations as OCP-IP members by
end of 2009. - Next Steps
- Russian market is embryonic and we inevitably
passed on visiting from late 2008 through 2009
it may be worth a visit through government and
ASIC-based companies to seed the word about OCP.
Cadence MIPS connections could be useful - Do Synopsys / Cadence see any opportunities here?
- Financial outlook continues to negate all
possibilities of travel to India or Russia in the
immediate future - IP-SOC event runs in Bangalore in 2H10
55
56Asia Summary
- Tight budgets in 2008 and 2009 prevented routine
travel to regions and this continued as liability
in 2010 - Need to refresh old relationships and build anew
when economy/budget improves - 2010 budget outlook forces activity in these
regions to continue to languish for foreseeable
future - Updating native language Web sites (Japanese,
Chinese, Korean) is our PRIME in-hand method of
maintaining visibility in the region

59Action Item Review (Ian)
- See handout OCP-IP GSC Action Items
- ARM Update
- All recent follow-ups have been made through Ian
- Ian made new contact with Keith Clarke (August
2009) - Secured F2F Meeting with Clarke and ARM attorney
(Sept 2009). Following ARMs floundering, Ian
provided OCP-IP drafted bilateral collaborative
agreement. Ian supplied this agreement to ARM
Oct 28 and and then long-awaited mark up /
feedback - After multiple duplicated emails and
conversations, received ARM feedback to our Oct
agreement on Feb 17th. Collaboration agreement
was officially signed end of March. - Accompanying three-way license from ARM finally
delivered on May 6th. Sonics provided feedback
to simple document on June 9th and we finally had
this and entire agreement executed by July 30th
with effective date July 15th - We formally exchanged specification info with ARM
early Aug and LUT is to be completed within 4
months of July 15th by Sonics

802010 Recruiting Goals
- Joe Basques (OCP-IP), September 30, 2010
812010 Recruiting Goals
- Asia / India 8 new 2 YTD (Infocomm and
TrueChip) - FPGA / Military 5 new 1 YTD (DSTO)
- GSC Members 5 Committed Participants 4 Current
- Where to go with each of MIPS and TSMC?
- Total Membership 5 Majors, reach 250 and
re-assess 238 to date (1 Major Analog Devices)
81
82Recruiting Updates
- Joe Basques (OCP-IP), September 30, 2010
83Recruiting Update (Joe)
- Focus continues to be on System Houses, IDMs and
major EDA and IP providers, BUT only if there is
obvious hope they can afford membership fees - Most energy is focused on three fronts
(unprioritized) - Retaining fees from existing members who appear
to have funds and who must participate -
muddling along with additions and loses - Pursuing new members who should participate with
OCP 4.0. Cavium have partially reemerged. What
pursuit possible given 3.1 vs. 4.0 SWG activity? - Reconfiguring the GSC for marketing thrust
- MIPS Motivated but want a freebie
- TSMC Dragged their feet and stumbling with
technical progress - We MUST re-engage all ex-paying members ASAP -
Economy still often makes this a marginal
opportunity - Request GSC provide any / all insights on
economic recovery
84Recruiting Results (Joe)
- New members since last GSC meeting
- TrueChip
- Samplify
- All indicators are adoption continues, but
without membership - Need our social media program running ASAP!
- Was reported during last GSC meeting as
participant member, but has since become paying
member.
85Recruiting - Joe
- Potential Upgrades
- Arteris - Still resisting
- MIPS - GSC
- ICERA at full rate
- Infineon
- TSMC - GSC ?
- Cutbacks leave us focused primarily on retaining
current members, some OCP 4.0 recruiting, but
mostly GSC reconfiguration with opportunistic
viable upgrades and new membership drop-ins
- Possibilities
- Cavium
- Then Juniper Networks?
- Wind River?
- Ericsson
- Qualcomm
- Cisco ?
- Intel ?
86Recruiting Observations (Joe)
- Economic fall-out renders recruiting of many
beleaguered companies still pointless - Other than minor recruiting opportunities for
OCP 4.0 and GSC reconfiguration, most energy is
dispersed into operations, PR, marketing activity
and SECURING forecasted collections - We enjoy a sustained perception of OCP-IP as a
highly capable industry leader with both media
and members alike - Current outlook shows some opportunity
domestically, very weak possibilities in Europe,
with outlook still bleak in Japan - Recruiting additions are best accomplished
piggy-backing our social media play
87Recruiting Summary - 2010 YTD (Joe)
- 2010 Goal 5 Major New Corporations and 250
members ASAP then revisit - (1 major, and 238 total)
- Current members
- 4 GSC members
- 234 other members signed
- 238 total members
- We have never developed an FPGA component of
OCP-IP, which would facilitate explosive growth.
Real OCP 4.0 activity may attract the large FPGA
suppliers?

89Budget / Cash Flow Update
- Ian Mackintosh (OCP-IP), September 30, 2010
902010 Budget (Ian)
- We secured our 2010 budget in Dec 09 GSC meeting
- Next
- Key to our future is reconfiguring GSC with
promotional focus to drive additional adoption
and paid participation. Some membership
additions may be possible based on emerging OCP
4.0 interest - Its critical that the perception of OCP-IPs
stability, continued growth and organizational
commitment continues unblemished in the market - Reviewing spreadsheet of latest Dec 09 approved
Budget vs. current (June) Forecast says we are
approximately on plan
912010 Budget / Cash Flow Update Cont (Ian)
- Expenses
- Essentially unchanged through EOY since last GSC
forecast - Some minor line adjustments made to reflect
known events and run rates - Receipts have not been modified this coming
quarter - Misc. gains approximately match losses going
forward - Possible additions
- Synopsys (Prorated) 13.6K (100)
- ICERA 9K (90)
- REC 25K (60?)
- MIPS (Prorated) 12K (20?)
- Cadence Prorated approximately 14K (100)
- Cavium 10K (10)
- Infineon 10K or 25K (20?)
- Expected Loss
- STM overpaid 25k (10?)
- Nokia acquisition 25K (100)
- As usual will balance cash flow using
presidents retainer L
91
922010 Budget Cash Flow Update Cont (Ian)
- Plan
- Need unambiguous closure at MIPS
- Must plan social media kick off and piggy-back
membership requirements to drive fees in 2011 - Will advise GSC if cash outlook deteriorates
- Currently EOY 2010 approximates EOY 2009 outlook.
Receipts will likely get tougher, so any minor
growth from any GSC prorations will only offset
known certain loss at Nokia - Social media revenue gains are still TBD. Our
capacity to act is built into expenses. Need GSC
coordination / commitment to kick off.

1092010 Ops Summary, YTD (Ian)
- 2010 started slow and has remained slow. Last
years growth was steady and hard work
(membership is money!). Most new members
continue to start as non-paying Participants and
its clear that 2008, 2009 hostile financial
environment is not much better in 2010. - 2010 data points show we have good OCP usage,
struggle to sign members, and experience pain
getting paid. - We need large orgs and higher paying GSC /
Sponsor members to drive revenue - We have a credible presence in Asia, but its
clear that non-paying Participant membership is
likely first penetration step, rather than hoping
for up-front membership fee. Lack of visits and
personal contact will likely cause our presence
to languish going forward. (China, India, Taiwan
Russia are inevitable value proposition
problems) - Always want more large companies (for revenue and
adoption!). Even the big guys have heartburn
over parting with ANY money for any membership
fees, DESPITE OCP USAGE! - Paying membership demands active solicitation and
marketing. We need scalable mechanism (such as
social media and promotional opportunities) as an
improved, value-add driver - Experience good success operating three native
language Web sites - Acceptable hits on native language Web sites,
which must help our visibility in Asia - OVERALL, WEB SITE ACTIVITY is PRETTY HEALTHY,
despite economic depression - Our best options appear to be supporting free
Participant membership to get players on board,
who hopefully appreciate value later and pay for
membership. A link to valuable social media
based promotional opportunities built on
mandatory membership can help drive membership
fees
109
1102010 Ops Summary, YTD (Ian)
- We have abandoned tradeshows throughout the year
due to the severe financial outlook - MWG publications (PRs, articles, conference
presentations) still generally look adequate and
have secured the industry image we enjoy today
(article backlog is lighter than usual, but we
believe still adequate through 2010) - Technical WG achievements have remained quite
strong, when viewed externally, though mostly
first shored-up by last years release of OCP
3.0, and r
