  • Man was nomadic in nature

Definition of society, caste etc.
  • Group of people who share a common culture,
    occupy, a particular territorial area and feel
    themselves to constitute a unified and distinct
    entity. Diversity is key factor.
  • Caste. Important in Hindu society for whom its
    basis the traditional idea of five varna..
    Within each Varna are myriad jati.
  • Jati are endogamous group.

Social exclusion
  • SE first originated in Europe. policy focus on
    those living in deprived areas, poor housing,
    inadequate social services, weak political voice,
    and lack of decent work all combine to create
    an experience of marginalization .
  • Amarty sens SE based upon the ideas of
    functioning(Healthy body, educated self respect)
    and capabilities (combination of functioning)

  • Definition of social exclusion the outcome of
    multiple deprivations that prevent individuals
    or groups from participating fully in the
    economic, social and political life of the
    society in which they live.
  • SE is a multidimensional process of progressive
    social rupture,(breach of harmonious relations)
    detaching groups and individuals from social
    relations.

Causes for social exclusion
  • Social exclusion is about inability of our
    society to keep all groups and individuals within
    reach of what we expect as a society.
  • In Europe it is unemployment, poverty(though it
    is developed country)
  • In India the causes are many, caste,
    creed,sex,disability.

  • caste is the dominant/deciding factor.
  • poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, unemployment are
    the other reason. this in spite of various
    achievement.
  • Prevalence of male dominated society.
  • What IMF has said. Two generation is enough.
  • Urge for inclusive growth.

Social Inclusion
  • Is an affirmative action to change the
    circumstances and habits that lead to social
    exclusion.
  • SI is a strategy to combat Se but without making
    reparations.
  • SI is a struggle for equal opportunity and
    against marginalization.

Four attributes of inclusiveness
  • Opportunity should be created to earn a living
    and increase their income over time
  • Capability is the economy providing the means
    for the people to create or enhance their
    capabilities in order to exploit available
    opportunities
  • Access is the economy providing the means to
    bring opportunities and capabilities together
  • Security is the economy providing the people to
    protect themselves against a temporary of
    permanent loss

  • Good governance based upon the accountability.
    People should be accountable and not the
    government
  • It is also known as equitable allocation of
    resources in order to benefit every section of
    the society.

Objective of the centre
  • Conceptualizing discrimination, exclusion and
    inclusion based on caste/ethnicity and religion.
  • Developing understanding of the nature and
    dynamics of discrimination and exclusion.
  • Contextualizing(interweaving)and problamatizing
    discrimination, exclusion and inclusion.
  • Understanding of discrimination at an empirical
    level
  • Formulating policies for protecting the rights
    of these groups and eradicating the problems of
    exclusion and discrimination

Problems are eternal
  • problems of exclusion always comes to stay with
    us ( gays, intercaste marriages, maryada Hatya,
    status of second marriage and wife)
  • Knowing of rights also disturb others
  • education a key factor

Inclusion under Indian constitution
  • know and identify the problem first
    (Untouchability)
  • Find out the possible solution
  • Create awareness
  • Convince the people to understand the problems
  • Take the support of Constitution
  • Preamble, various articles Art. 14, 15, 16, 17,
    20, 21, 22, 32, 226, 340, etc.
