HISTORY
  • The Fire District began as a Volunteer Department
    in 1944 with 60 members.
  • Funding for the Volunteer Fire Department was
    obtained through annual firemens picnics.
  • The Volunteer Fire Department became a Fire
    Protection District in 1953.
  • The first paid Fire Chief, August Liliensiek, was
    hired in 1962.

HISTORY
  • A tax rate was established to fund the Fire
    District.
  • The first two paid firefighters were hired in
    1958. The District became a part paid and part
    volunteer fire department.
  • The District had two fire pumpers and one fire
    station at Bellefontaine and Parker Rds.
  • In 1961 there were four paid firefighters working
    two 24 hour shifts.

HISTORY
  • In 1963 the District hired an additional
    firefighter and the Fire Chief went on an 8 hour
    shift.
  • In 1967 more firefighters were hired and the
    volunteer department was disbanded.
  • In 1972 a second firehouse was opened at Larimore
    Road and Cove Ave.

TODAY
  • The District has 23 paid firefighters that work
    24 hour shifts.
  • Two Fire Stations, an Administration Building, 1
    Engine Company, 1 Ladder Company, 1 Support
    Vehicle, an air cascade trailer, boat and ATV
    trailer, and 2 Staff Vehicles to serve the
    District.
  • There are 21,000 residents in the Spanish Lake
    Fire District.
  • The Fire District covers an area of 19 square
    miles.
