  • The systematic extermination of a group of people
    on the basis of a defining characteristic.
  • Term was created after the Holocaust in 1948.
    Used so the world can identify and stop horrific
    acts

  • -killing members of the group
  • -causing serious bodily or mental harm
  • -creating living conditions to destroy
  • -imposing measures to prevent the birth
  • -forcibly transferring children of the group to
    another group

    political or environmental reasons and have
    crossed an international border.

  • Someone that has been forced to move like a
    refugee but has stayed within the country.
  • Refugees are protected by international law, but
    IDPs are under the protection of local
    authorities.
