3Methodology (Sampling method)
- Without a disability sampling frame on disabled
persons and non disabled and because the sample
size is small, quota sampling is the suitable
method. - In order to cover rural and urban area, the sites
retained and covered are Mbujimayi and Tshilenge.
- Mbujimayi is a city the capital of Kasaï
Oriental province, one of the 10 provinces of
DRC.
4Methodology (continued)
- A province is divided in districts, a district in
territories. - Tshilenge is one of the 3 districts of Kasaï
Oriental and has a territory named Tshilenge,
too. It is located in rural area. - The sample size is small. Only 25 individuals
have been interviewed as self report or with a
proxy .
5Translation of questionnaire
- The questionnaire has been translated into two
languages the French and Tshiluba. - The process of translating has been completed to
improve the understanding and facilitate the
interviews. How? - The team of translating was constituted by
students of the Institut Supérieur Pédagogique
as translators and two of their Professors as
checkers.
6Translation of questionnaire(ctd)
- After the translating by translators, checking of
translations by checkers, the questionnaire went
to the enumerator training for another checking,
and then the final version came from the
enumerator training and was as its agreement. - The fact that tshiluba is a written language and
the team is used to translate texts make the
translation easy and no difficulty.
7Enumerator training
- The interviewer training was facilitated by the
CD Rom provided by the Washington Group. - During more than two days, interviewers were
provided with instructions on questionnaire
administration. - They watched CD Rom and understood well that the
cognitive test is not so much a survey as an
interview and it is very important for the
interviewer not to help the respondents and to
record exactly what they say .
8Interviewing people
- Five interviewers divided into two teams and
each interviewer did 5 interviews (25
respondents). - Three interviewers operated in Mbujimayi (2 men
and 1 woman) and two men in Tshilenge. - They worked during the same time.
9Interviewing people (continued)
- About the self report and the proxy the list of
person to be interviewed has been done before
going on field. Arriving in the household or in
the organization which the person belonging to,
if the person listed could not answer, another
member of that householder was selected to give
answers concerning that listed person.
10Results
