Agenda 21 of the EARTH SUMMIT 1992 is the
first comprehensive effort ever taken in the
world for concretely effecting Sustainable
Development, especially Sustainable Tourism
Development
Some major stipulations of the Agenda21 on
Sustainable Tourism Development is as follows

1. Assessing the capacity of the existing regulatory
   economic and voluntary framework to bring
   about sustainable tourism.
2. Assessing the economic, social, cultural and
   environmental implications of tourism
   industry operations.
3. Training, education and public awareness of
   sustainable tourism
4. Planning for sustainable tourism development
5. Facilitating exchange of information skill and
   technology relating to sustainable
   tourism between developed and developing
   countries.
6. Providing for the participation of all sectors of
   the society ( in sustainable tourism
   activities).
7. Designing of new tourism products with
   sustainability at their core as an
   integral part of the tourism development process.
8. Measuring progress in achieving sustainable
   development at local level.
