Title: The key to comfort and efficiency for heating and air-conditioning

1
The key to comfort and efficiency for heating and
air-conditioning
Exquisite Heat
2
Global Energy SecuritySt. Petersburg, July 16,
2006
  • growing demand for energy (estimated to rise by
more than 50 by the year 2030, approximately 80
of which would still be met by fossil fuels,
    which are limited resources)

3
A few Numbers for the record.
  • US Energy Information Agency 2001
  • Natural Gas 59,300,000 homes
  • Electricity 31,100,000
  • Fuel Oil 8,000,000
  • LPG 5,000,000
  • wood, Kerosene, solar 3,500,000
  • Total 92,050,000 homes in US

4
15 fuel savings/4yr payback/1000
5
A word about savings.
  • Every building has a different relationship with
    its heating plant.
  • Some waste a lot. Most waste a lot.
  • Most have comfort problems.
  • Savings on fuels can range from 5-30
  • Exquisite Heat will run it more comfortably and
    efficiently for sure.

6
Reduction of chimney waste
  • Air Pollutants CO2, NO, etc.
  • Particulates heat

7
Efficiency
  • Reduced standby loss.
  • Increased exchange circulation
  • Reduced piping loss.
  • Better convection at baseboard and radiators
  • Less back wall radiation loss
  • Reduced piping radiation loss
  • Less BTU generation to satisfy comfort needs on
    less then design degree days.

10
How??
  • Precise building
  • BTU replacement
  • for BTU loss.

11
Exquisite Heat
  • Adjusts heating/cooling supply temperature in
    response to Thermostat demand history.

12
Even BTU distribution
  • Lower heating plant (boiler/furnace)
temperatures allow for more evenly delivered
    temperature to the space.

13
Temperature vs. Thermostat
  • The lower the medium temperature the longer it
will take the thermostat to sense the change.
  • ???

15
Simple Attachment
  • Two wire Thermostat parallel connection input.
  • Attach thermistor to supply output.
  • Connect control relay in series.
  • Plug in transformer to AC outlet.
  • Program system variables.
  • Revisit until satisfied with installation
    settings.

What happened?
  • A changed philosophy of boiler control.
  • The new goal is to satisfy an Ideal Thermostat
    Demand ratio.
  • As Actual Thermostat Demand changes in relation
to Ideal Thermostat Demand, the boiler output is
    adjusted every hour.

22
Funding
  • You have been picking the low hanging fruit.
  • It is time to learn about energy efficiency.
  • The problem is not going to be solved through tax
    breaks and government guarantees.
  • The answer is not a financial trick from Wall
    Street.
  • The environment does not care.

23
The Hard facts
  • Folks have to be educated.
  • Folks have to change.
  • Advertising strategies.
  • Technology deployment.
  • Professional education and technical training.
  • Renewable energy sources are only part of the
    answer.

24
We have a Mission !
  • Attitudes.
  • Education
  • Political credibility.
  • Allocation of resources.
  • Promotion of new social values.
  • Advertisement of new priorities.
  • Progress reports and praise.

25
Profit
  • There is profit and return in
  • Conservation of limited resources.
  • Potential savings on efficiency.
  • Return on investment with the new technology
    and the resulting economic savings.
  • These measures more than pay for themselves.

26
Assumption 1
  • Increased circulation delivers even comfort.

27
Assumption 2.
  • The closer the heating plant temperature is to
the room temperature requirement, the more fuel
    efficient the system.

Thermostat
  • The thermostat takes all heat loss and heat gain
    into consideration.
  • The customer can adjust thermostat for personal
    comfort.
  • Thermostat activity can be used to adjust
boiler, HVAC output to satisfy the space with
    ideal circulation.
  • The thermostat and energy source interact for
    comfort and efficiency.

31
Outdoor Reset Controls
  • They were part of the answer over the past 40
years. They were not as accurate as

32
Thermostat Data
  • Data from the thermostat, for adjusting boiler,
furnace, AC control, provides real information
about occupants, building heat loss, and
influences of wind, solar gain and system design
. MZ-308 makes the process seamlessly fuel
efficient and comfortable for even distribution
    throughout the structure.

33
Domestic Hot Water
  • A Second thermistor is provided to monitor
domestic Hot water. If the Thermostat does not
call for heat for one hour the second thermistor
is used to satisfy domestic hot water limit
    temperatures.

34
Cold Start
  • Menu adjustment is made for ability to operate
boiler in cold start mode and calculate the
limits based upon behavior while heating.

35
Multi Zone Satisfaction
  • Most cases are satisfied by attaching analysis
zone to chilly zone in system. The rest of the
zones will float with variable circulation for
    the hour.

36
Multi Thermostat Analysis
  • A second thermostat sensing input is provided if
needed, so the control will choose the higher
Actual Demand Data for analysis purposes. This
is helpful if the building has unusual
    characteristics.

37
Boiler Protection
  • Established low temperature limits are provided
for within the control. Allowance for boiler
piping for protection is provided for by tasking
control temperature readings on the secondary
    loop of the boiler piping.

38
Steam Control
  • Steam boilers can be made more precise with
    Exquisite Heat Control.
  • Reduce overshoot in steam delivery.
  • Temper supply to thermostat demand.
  • Reduce discomfort and waste.
  • Shut those open windows.
  • Reduce complaints of discomfort.

40
What has been done
  • Changed the philosophy of boiler control.
  • The new goal is to give heat to satisfy a fixed
    Ideal Thermostat Demand ratio.
  • We adjust the boiler output to meet that Ideal
    demand at the thermostat.
  • We provide a more comfortable and more efficient
    method of heating interior space.

41
Shut Down
  • In the event of a control shut down
  • Power failure
  • Computer switches disconnect control relay off
and returns HVAC to in series factory low voltage
    fire controls.

42
Alarms
  • Normally open or closed alarm relay is activated
upon shut down, or safety settings.
  • Trigger local alarm, communicator, or security
    system.
  • Alarm central or direct dialer to owner and/or
    contractor.
  • Additional flood, heat, smoke detection.

  • Day after day.
  • Year after year. It more than pays for itself.

45
Added Comfort
  • Free of Charge
  • The feature
  • customers notice first

46
Unconditional Guarantee
  • Exquisite Heat will exchange failed equipment
for five years. Lease and rental replacement
will occur for the term of the agreement.
  • Equipment will be removed and rental agreement
cancelled provided Accounts are current. ( Do it
    Right!!! )
  • We are here to refine comfort and efficiency.

47
Manufacturers
  • Now have the opportunity to develop efficient
boilers and deliver system efficiently to the
    final comfort recipient.

48

  • have the opportunity to deliver unprecedented
comfort and efficiency to their customers.
  • Exquisite Heat offers the best in class for
controlling existing buildings without the need
    for major renovation.
