Title: SUSY Searches at the Tevatron

1
SUSY Searches at the Tevatron
  • Mario Paolo Giordani
  • Università degli Studi di Udine INFN Trieste
  • IFAE 04 Torino (Italy)
  • April 14th, 2004

2
Outline
  • Accelerator performance
  • Tevatron detectors
  • Higgs sector
  • Classical missing ET
  • Third generation sfermions
  • Trilepton-based
  • Photonmissing ET
  • CHAMPs
  • High tan? scenario
  • Indirect searches

3
Tevatron performance
  • Excellent performance in 2004
  • 450pb-1 delivered in RunII
  • 300(DØ) to 350(CDF) pb-1 on tape
  • 200 to 250pb-1 analyzed by each experiment

4
CDF DØ
5
No SUSY without Higgs
  • Dynamics for electroweak symmetry breaking still
    unknown
  • Low-energy SUSY provides viable SM extension
    predicting light Higgs boson
  • SUSY Higgs sector richer than SM
  • 5 Higgs states h,H,A0,H
  • upper bound on mh

6
SM Higgs
  • LEP2 mHgt114.4GeV/c2 _at_95C.L.
  • Tevatron will need time luminosity
  • even if light Higgs seems to be favoured

mH117GeV/c2
7
MSSM Higgs
  • MSSM reach inferred from SM Higgs

maximal stop mixing
effect of upper bound on mh wide exclusion
8
MSSM Higgs 4b-jets
  • Powerful signature
  • require at least 3 b-tags out of 3 or 4 jets
  • suppressed by stop mixing

9
Missing ET Signature
  • Best squark/gluino sensitivity
  • Jets from cascade decays ? moderate ET jets
  • Missing ET from multiple sources ? moderate
    missing ET
  • need full understanding of detector!

10
Squarks and gluinos
  • Getting into new region
  • Mapping work in progress

CDF D0 Run I
11
Gluino Decay into Sbottom
  • Large production cross-section
  • Possible decays (but heavy)
  • (but
    heavy)
  • Striking signature 4b-jetsmissing ET
  • 1 or 2 b-tags out of at least 3 jets

12
Gluino Decay into Sbottom
  • Main backgrounds mistags and
  • expected (1b-tag),
    (2b-tag)
  • observed 4 single and 1 double b-tagged evts

13
Lepton-based Signatures
  • Trilepton-based chargino-neutralino
  • Very clean, convincing proof of SUSY
  • mSUGRA prediction at reach

14
Like-Sign Dileptons
  • Release third lepton request
  • Increase acceptance
  • LS requirement for background rejection

95C.L. excluded
forbidden
15
DiPhotonMissing ET
  • Gravitino LSP?NLSP is or
  • if neutralino NLSP
  • SUSY signatures complemented by ??

16
GMSB SUSY
  • DØ sets
  • improves LEP limits!
  • CDF results with 200pb-1 coming soon

17
CHArged Massive Particles
  • Charged massive particles
  • predicted by many models
  • stable or gauginos
  • due to couplings kinematic constraints
  • stable ? escape detector
  • massive ? slowly moving
  • Use TOF data
  • ?TOF wrt particle speedc
  • signal ?TOFgt2.5ns
  • Stable stop (NLSP)

18
SUSY _at_ high tan?
  • Standard trilepton
  • with
  • For tan?gt8
  • ? becomes important
  • trilepton
  • A???
  • New tools
  • leptontrack triggers
  • progress on ? id
  • see E. Vatagas talk

19
SUSY in B Decays
  • Enticing probe for SUSY
  • SM no FCNC _at_ tree level
  • BR(Bs???)3.410-9
  • SUSY corrections boosts decay
  • CKM-suppressed
  • Discriminating variables
  • M?? , c? , ??(dimuon,vertex) isolation

20
Bs/d???-
  • CDF 95 C.L. limits
  • BR(Bs???)7.510-7
  • BR(Bd???)1.910-7
  • DØ 95 C.L. expected limit
  • BR(Bs???)1.010-6

Conclusions
  • Tevatron running at worlds highest energy
  • Luminosity records resulting in 0.3fb-1 of
    physics quality data accumulated
  • RunII SUSY limits approaching and surpassing
    LEPII
  • Searching for SUSY in a large variety of channels
  • Hope to see first signs or even discover SUSY
    before LHC
  • See S.Rollis talk for more Tevatron results
