Background

• Iraq just ended a long war with neighbor Iran
• Saddam Hussein the leader of Iraq began speaking
  against their neighbor of Kuwait and making
  claims that they were drilling between the border
  of the two countries in order to steal oil.
• He insisted that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and
  cancel out 30 billion of Iraq's foreign debt,
  and accused them of conspiring to keep oil prices
  low in an effort to pander to Western oil-buying
  nations.
• On Aug 2nd 1990 Iraq troops attacked Kuwait.

• Finally on August 7,1990 the Saudis asked the
  United States to intervene.
• The U.S. started to block Iraqs oil exports.
• On Jan. 15,1991 President Bush and British Prime
  Minister Margaret Thatcher gave Saddam an
  ultimatum to withdraw from Kuwait.
• The next day the coalition forces (U.S. Great
  Britain) began attacking Iraq.

Results

• The Iraqi army was defeated in less than two
  months. Iraq had to leave Kuwait alone and
  destroy all weapons of mass destruction.
