Title: A grievous process that brings about the peaceful fruits of righteousness'

1
When Children Misbehave (Part 2)
  • A grievous process that brings about the peaceful
    fruits of righteousness.

2
Introduction
  • We have already noted the necessity and
    seriousness of corporate chastisement.
  • Gods divine word, not mans changing
philosophies, is what well be judged by and how
we please Him in the raising of our children.
  • It is a daunting task but one that not only is
essential in godly upbringing, but also in
    shaping the character of parents.

3
Introduction
  • Although corporal chastisement may be a necessity
and divinely approved, it is still a grievous
    process.
  • There are numerous reasons NOT to practice
    corporal chastisement.
  • But those who do will be rewarded with the
peaceable fruits of righteousness and enjoy a
    biblically blessed family.

4
Corporal Chastisement is Grievous
  • Loving parents do not enjoy the thought of
chastening their children many as a result
have reasons not to use the rod.
  • The pain of punishing your child may be difficult
    to exercise.
  • It comes at a seemingly inconvenient times.
  • Parents wonder if all their work is actually
beneficial when it seems like nothing is getting
    through to their children.

5
Corporal Chastisement is Grievous
  • Parents can and will get angry. Cp. Eph. 426
  • Anger is not bad in and of itself. Exo. 2221-24
  • Sin takes place when your heart is
murderous/hateful when your anger is for no just
    cause.
  • Conversely righteous indignation against
rebellion or injustice is biblically viewed as
acceptable. Jn. 213-17 cp. Rom. 132-4

6
Corporal Chastisement is Grievous
  • Parents will get frustrated and worn out.
  • It is tiring having to repeatedly
    teach/warn/reprove/chastise your children over
the same thing seemingly infinite times.
  • NOTE consider how we test the longsuffering of
God with our rebellious behavior against His
    will.
  • This is all the more reason why corporal
chastisement can be a quick and efficient means.

7
Corporal Chastisement is Grievous
  • Bottom line parents will practice chastisement
    imperfectly.
  • Because we may not necessarily be all knowing
    about every situation.
  • Because we may not exercise judgments
    righteously, but discriminately.

8
The Peaceable Fruits of Righteousness
  • Like teaching, correction and punishment has
goals for your child wisdom and joyful
    obedience. Prov. 2915 1 Jn. 53
  • Some children learn joyful obedience
    quicklypraise God!
  • Some children are a thorn in your side and test
    your faithpraise God!
  • Maybe this child was brought about (via Gods
    divine providence) to teach/chasten you?
  • Maybe this child was brought about to refine your
    character?
  • Regardless, God entrusted you with this specific
child as a blessing and expects you to be a
serving steward which also deserves His praise.

9
The Peaceable Fruits of Righteousness
  • Ultimately, you will reap what you sow.
  • Hateful, inconsistence, lack of diligence all
    bring about disastrous results.
  • On the other hand, chastising your dear children,
combined with loving teaching and correction,
will bring you great joy and bring them peaceful
    fruits of righteousness. Heb. 1211

10
Conclusion
  • While not joyful, and even grievous at times, the
end result of chastening your children as God
desires truly does bring about the peaceable
    fruits of righteousness.
  • May all who fear the Lord and keep His
commandments be blessed by Him to have truly
    blessed families.
