Plans and Ideas from Steve Flint and Dave Hodgson
(Strat Group)
- Sediment transport across the shelf edge and
storage/bypass on the submarine slope profile
(with POL) - - Linking of observational datasets such as Hi
Res 3-D - seismic and borehole information with
modelling of - sediment transport and delivery to the shelf
edge by POL. - - Problem is fundingrecent application for NERC
Ocean - Margins round was unsuccessful (awaiting
feedback) - Discriminating very high frequency allocyclicity
(Milankovitch cycle components) in the clastic
sedimentary record and their effects on fluid
flow - - 5th order stratigraphic cycles are now
identified in - the deposits of most depositional environments
but - position in sequence hierarchy has both
positive and - negative effects on geometry and connectivity
of sands. - - Interested in comparative analysis of icehouse
vs - greenhouse periods of earth history.
- - Plans to expand this work and link perhaps to
RWo - and to Manchester
2 Controls on Tectono-Stratigraphic
Development of Sedimentary Basins
Accommodation / sediment supply history -
Ongoing analysis of stratigraphic development of
basins with particular emphasis on
retro-arc foreland basins (Karoo, South Africa
and Western Interior (USA) and strike-
slip basins of Pacific Russia. - Largely
oil industry-funded - Current, past and
future working with Graham Potts and Nick Kusznir
