  swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish
  three days and three nights.

  and he answered me. From the depths of the grave
  I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
• 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very
  heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about
  me all your waves and breakers swept over me.

• So what great truth is this book telling us about
  God?
• 29 Salvation comes from the LORD.

• Gods Punishment and Gods Salvation coincide.
• 117 210 bracket the prayer the fish does
  its job!
• What Jonah deserved (25b,6,7) was drowning.
• What he GOT was a miracle of timing, and a sign
  of Gods grace.

• Why a FISH? Why not driftwood or another ship to
  the rescue?
• His punishment was DEATH and that is what he
  got! Buried for three days in the belly of a
  fish.
• Punished, but also saved.
• Note some words of mercy in Hosea writing soon
  afterwards - around 755 BC

• Hosea 61-2 Come, let us return to the LORD. He
  has torn us to pieces but he will heal us he has
  injured us but he will bind up our wounds.
  After two days he will revive us on the third
  day he will restore us, that we may live in his
  presence.
