fruitful and increase in number fill the earth
and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and
the birds of the air and over every living
creature that moves on the ground."
  •  29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing
plant on the face of the whole earth and every
tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be
    yours for food.

  • He wants us to Love him.
  • Style a lover who pursues with blessings
  • Nation (people)
  • Land
  • He wants us to learn to live well (choose good,
    hate evil)
  • His plan was to choose some people to use to
illustrate what this means to everyone else

6
Our Themometer
  • How did people do?
  • Through out the book of Genesis, there are
stories of people who were tested
  • Loving God
  • Walk in his ways (Hate evil, love good)
  • The land/nation theme acts as a thermometer.

7
Gen 316-19

increase your pains in childbearing        with
pain you will give birth to children.

commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.
  • 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be
fruitful and increase in number fill the earth
    and subdue it.

9
Gen 316-19
  • 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
  • 19 By the sweat of your brow        you will eat
your food        until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken        for
dust you are        and to dust you will
    return."
  • Genesis 129 Then God said, "I give you every
seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth
and every tree that has fruit with seed in it.
They will be yours for food.

10
Pre-flood
  • Stories that show us how we do with no rules no
    constrictions from God.
  • Note this is before the 10 Commandments
  • But they force us to think about good and evil

11
Genesis 65-8
  •  5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the
earth had become, and that every inclination of
the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the
time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man
on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.

12
The Big Idea

  • His plan was to choose some people who would
illustrate what it means to live well

Sidebar
  • I Peter 318-20
  • For Christ died for sins once for all, the
righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
God. He was put to death in the body but made
alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went
and preached to the spirits in prison who
disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in
the days of Noah while the ark was being built.
  • In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved

15
Genesis 65-8
  • 7 So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I
have created, from the face of the earthmen and
animals, and creatures that move along the
ground, and birds of the airfor I am grieved
    that I have made them."
  • 8 But Noah found favour in the eyes of the LORD.

birds of the air, upon every creature that moves
along the ground, and upon all the fish of the

Romans 323-25
  • For all have sinned all fall short of God's
glorious standard. Yet now God in his gracious
kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this
through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking
away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the
punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's
anger against us. We are made right with God when
we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing
    his life for us.
