Brief Review
  • Last year we couldnt achieve much success at
    eliminating separation over the wavy wall using
    suction.
  • Dr. Simpson suggested using Vortex generators,
    which showed better performance to some extent.
  • It was also suggested that we eliminate the
    incoming boundary layer along the convergent
    straight part at the beginning of the wavy wall
    test section.
  • The Plexiglas panels covering the side walls of
    the convergent parts were replaced with porous
    aluminum plates.
  • It was decided that we use vortex generators
    along the side walls and at the corners to
    energize the boundary layer, in combination with
    suction.

Testing Plan
  • First set of measurements is going to be at the
    end of the converging part using the 7-hole
    probe, with no suction or VG, to know who the
    flow field is behaving and to have a reference
    flow to determine the how well the boundary layer
    is eliminated.
  • Apply suction at the middle of the converging
    part, open a slot of about 0.5-1.
  • Attach a VG downstream of the suction slot.
  • Measure the flow again and determine the
    efficiency of this setup.
  • After the initial boundary layer is eliminated
    suction and VG will be applied in a similar
    manner to the rest of the wave as shown in the
    figure.
  • Suction will be applied downstream of peaks,
    (3?/4), at one or two slots per wave. Slot sizes
    will be adjusted according to need.
