Title: Mitosis

1
Mitosis Meiosis
  • Division of the nucleus.

2
Mitosis division of 1 diploid nucleus into 2
identical diploid nuclei
  • Diploid cell (2n). cells with 2 of every
    chromosome.
  • Daughter Cell 2 new cells produced by mitosis.
  • All somatic cells undergo mitosis for growth,
repair or replacement of old cells

3
Meiosis division of 1 diploid nuclei into 4
haploid nuclei.
  • Haploid (1n) cells with only 1 of each
    chromosome.
  • Gamete egg or sperm.
  • Only sex cells undergo meiosis to produce gametes.

4
Interphase normal phase of the cell.
  • In interphase, the nuclear envelope is present
and the chromosomes are NOT visible.

5
Prophase 1st phase of mitosis or meiosis.
  • During prophase, the chromosomes are now visible
(prominent) and the nuclear membrane is breaking
    apart.

6
Metaphase 2nd phase
  • The nuclear membrane is now gone and the
chromosomes line up (meet) in the middle.

7
Anaphase 3rd phase
  • The nuclear envelope is still absent and the
chromatids move away from each other.

8
Telophase 4th phase
  • Two new nuclear envelopes begin to reform and
    chromosomes begin to disappear.
  • Cytokinesis division of the cell membrane and
    cytoplasm.

9
Mitosis - Overview
10
Meiosis Has the same phases as mitosis (PMAT)
it just does them 2 times!!!!
