The District of Sekhukhune will be honouring
mothers and daughters of Sekhukhune through
celebrating lives of women from humble villages
of the District who sacrificed their lives to the
liberation of all South Africans. Mmakgoshi
Madinoge Kgoloko Hunadi a Mohlabane, Mme
Matati Gertrude Nchabeleng, Mme Esther Maleka
and Manche Masemola (pictured below) are amongst
women whose lives will be celebrated on the 3rd
of August 2007 in Ga-Mashabela village of
Makhuduthamaga Municipality.
Mme Magotabe Mmadikuane Esther Maleka was the
first daughter of late Mr Uriah Mokebe and the
late Mrs Maleka. She was born on the 22nd of
October 1943 at Ga-Marishane, Nebo District. Mme
Esther started school at Vlakplaas, Marishane and
went to Attridgeville for her higher primary
education. Later she joined her parents in Soweto
where she completed standard eight. She was
detained several times. She was an active member
of the -
UDF and also the chairperson of FETRAW at
Mzimhlophe branch. She had worked underground for
the Umkhonto wesizwe. She served as a dedicated
leader, organiser and mother to many. Malibogwe

Mmakgoshi Madinoge Kgoloko is the larger than
life titan who lived and died for women
emancipation. She was the candle wife to Kgoshi
Kgoloko of Marota Madibong whose base includes
Madibong, Mashishing and other villages that form
Jane Furse town. As the mother of the nation and
leader of rural women she was always found in a
collusion cause against the Apartheid regime. Her
resistance to Apartheid and colonialism has
landed her prisons around the Republic.
St Manche Masemola was born in Marishane,
Sukhukhuneland. In 1919 Fr Augustine Moeka
established a mission at Marishane. Manche
attended services with her cousin Lucia. She
later attended baptism preparation classes twice
a week at the mission. Her parents forbade her
from going, but she ignored them. 1927 Manches
parents began beating her, sometimes twice a day.
1928 on or around 4th February Manche died and
was buried. 1969 Manche's mother, the one who
claimed her life

Mme Madinoge, affectionately known as Hunadi a
Mohlabane is the Mother Queen who passed her
leadership acumen and charisma to his sons

now leaders in the ANC Legislature and Marota

after continued assaults, converted to
Christianity and was baptised. 1975 Manches name
was added to the calendar of the Church of the
Province of South Africa and hundreds go on
pilgrimage every first Sunday of August. In 1998
Manche's statue was unveiled at Westminster
Abbey, London. Malibogwe igama lika Manche

Mme Matati Gertrude Nchabeleng is the mother,
leader and community builder. She was born in
1933, and her entire life evolved around her
undying commitment to emancipate women of
Sekhukhune and the world. As a mother and
internationalist, she was also a loving wife to
the late President of United Democratic Front
(UDF) in Transvaal, Cde Peter Nchabeleng. As for
Matati and her family, they
Mme Linda Maroga was born in 1936 at Hlabisa in
Nongoma, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province. She attended
school at an Anglican missionary School here she
completed her Std 6. she trained at Germiston
Hospital in 1956 to 1957, and eventually
relocated to . H.C Boshof Hospital where she was
amongst those who fought against racism and bad
working conditions. As a result of the hospital
system she was expelled in the year 1965. since
then she managed the family business and played a
role of a developer, activist, teacher, nurse,
economist as well as opening her home to
destitute families and children. In 1990 after
the unbanning of the liberaion movements Mme
Linda Maroga served several strucutures of the
ANC, and elected deputy chairperson of ANC
Womens League Eastern Region. She was a torch
bearer in her community and led various community
development structures including the ANCWL Maroga
village, as well as Eco-link as community
developer. Malibogwe igama lika MamaLinda Maroga!
-served the South African people to the end. The
very reason why Adv. Ngoako Ramatlhodi in his
position as the Premier of Limpopo post-humorsly
awarded Mme Nchabeleng as the stalwart of freedom
and leader of women of Limpopo. Malibogwe igama
