How can a Membership Committee Help?

    programs

10
  • The Membership Committees work
  • It captures prospects/names for you -
  • a) Ask Grand Lodge for names of Master Masons in
    your Valley.
  • b) Ask the Shrine for list of newer members in
    your Valley.
  • c) Ask your members for names of Master Masons
they know who arent Scottish Rite Masons.
  • d) Get names from tickets sold for Scottish Rite
    functions.

11
What happens next?
  • Compile list of names and check against Valley
database to eliminate those already members.
  • Distribute list to Membership Committee asking
each to take a part of list.
  • Get candidates address and telephone number from
    Grand Lodge or local Lodge.

  • Contd

12
What happens next?
  • Make contact with top-line signer or Scottish
Rite member who suggested a Master Mason for
    membership.

candidate, explain Scottish Rite and get a signed
    petition.
  • Offer incentives or rewards for Membership Team
  • THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS SHOULD BE MENTORS.

13
  • Another good practiceHold Prospective
    Membership dinners/Friends Nights- include other
    Masonic Bodies.
  • a) These can be large group at your Valley or
    small group away from Temple.
  • b) Share the information/cost with Appendant
    Bodies
  • c) Keep presentations short- spending more
    time one-on-one with candidates.

14
We cant do all these things!- Problem/Long
Term Solutions -
  • 1- Valley doesnt communicate with Grand Lodge or
    Shrine
  • a) get GL Leadership/Influence on your team
  • b) Initiate a Masonic Unity group in your
Valley. Meet quarterly with Grand Lodge, York
    Rite, Shrine and Scottish Rite.
  • c) Offer to help other Bodies with their
    functions.
  • d) Invite them to help with Scottish Rite events
and social programs in your Valley.

15
We cant do all these things!- Problem/Long
Term Solutions -
  • 2- There is no variety to the membership effort.
Our workers become passive to the program
  • a) Consider organizing member effort and Reunion
    theme around target groups.
  • b) We know a members profession
  • add hobbies to database.
  • c) Men, like wolves, run in packs (cliques). Men
dont socialize with fellow workers today. They
run with men they enjoy being around--similar
    hobbies, backgrounds and social interests.

16
  • d) Consider the advantages of target marketing
  • Senior DeMolays
  • Descendants of Masons
  • Geographic areas of your Valley
  • Eagle Scouts
  • College Social Fraternities
  • Non-Scottish Rite Shriners
  • Military personnel or affinity groups
  • Age groups by decade (40s, 50s, 60s)
  • Corporate groupslarge labor pools

17
  • e) Keys to success in target marketing
  • 1. Everything evolves around the marketing of
    your theme.
  • 2. You must identify key membership leaders as
    they come through your Reunions.
  • 3. Cultivate their ownership of your idea.
  • 4. Every theme Reunion does not generate the
same success. Be patient. Work your program.
    Never look back.
  • .

18
We cant do all these things!- Problem/Long
Term Solutions -
  • 3- No social programs of quality in your Valley.
  • A. Special Events should serve a specific
    purpose
  • 1. Those that promote public image
  • 2. Those that involve the family of Masonry
  • 3. Those that serve the social interests of
    members
  • 4. Those that educate

19
  • B. Build a series of social programs in your
    Valley.
  • a) Spring Outings for members and guests.
  • b) Broadway show tickets.
  • c) Shrimp Feed fundraiser
  • d) Chili-n-Lights, holiday social event.
  • e) ?????
  • Tickets information should attain name, address
    Masonic affiliations.

20
Finally!
  • Work the 5 steps for Recruitment.
  • Membership Committee members should be mentors.
  • Consider the advantages of targeting.
  • Consider a separate Retention Committee.
  • Build social programs that will have people
talking about Scottish Rite away from Scottish
    Rite.
  • Give it all you got!
