Background

• Since American keyboards dont have accent marks
  on them, special key combinations have been set
  up to allow us to type accent marks on an
  American keyboard.
• Keyboards in countries whose languages use accent
  marks have special keys for the accents.

Accents in Microsoft Word

• Find the key combination for the accent mark you
  need.
• Press and hold either Ctrl or Ctrl and Shift,
  depending on the combination.
• Press but do not hold the other key in the
  combination.
• Let go of the Ctrl (and Shift) key(s).
• Type the letter the accent mark is supposed to
  appear on.

• The key combo for an accent aigu is Ctrl
  Apostrophe.
• Press and hold Ctrl.
• Press but do not hold Apostrophe.
• Let Ctrl go.
• Type e.
