One of the most important features of Excel is
the Help facility. Get familiar with it and use
it often.

• Entering Data
• data may be numeric values or text (alphanumeric
  character strings)
• by default, numeric data is right justified and
  text data is left justified this formatting is
  easily changed
• numeric data can be positive or negative, integer
  or real, floating point or scientific notation
• numeric data can have a wide range of
  formats/uses, e.g., simple numbers, percentages,
  dates, times, currencies
• numeric data formats that require too many
  characters to fit within a cell are shown as
  - the actual data value is valid, it just
  cant be displayed
• by default, text data that is too long to fit
  into a cell will extend into a neighboring empty
  cell or truncated if the neighboring cell is not
  empty
• numeric data can be treated as text by preceding
  them an apostrophe

• formulas express interdependencies between the
  cells on a worksheet
• formulas can be used to perform arithmetic on
  numerical data, combine strings of characters,
  and to compare cell values
• formula entry begins with an equal sign and
  ends when the Enter or Return key is pressed
• entry of a formula can be aborted by pressing the
  Escape key
• formulas are edited by clicking on the cell
  containing the formula and then modifying the
  contents of the formula window
