2Q06 Activity
  • 14 LoA forms received posted
  • 2 free form LOAs under consideration
  • 6 requests made for 13 LoAs

2Q06 Activity
  • LoAs were previously submitted as free-form
    letters and are still under consideration.
  • Legal counsel has identified required changes to
    the free-form LOAs.
  • Once these changes have been made, PatCom is
    expected to accept these LOAs.

ANSI Patent Policy
  • A series of minor changes to the ANSI Patent
    Policy, largely to provide clarifications, was
    approved.
  • An issues list, providing a long term road map
    for future work of the patent group, is being
    developed.
  • Next meeting of the ANSI Patent Committee is next
    week at Apple.

Ad Hoc Drafting Committee
  • The Drafting Committee ad hoc of the Patent
    Committee was appointed by the chair following
    the March PatCom meeting.
  • The ad hoc was divided into a Core Drafting
    Committee and an Extended Drafting Committee.

  • The Core Drafting Committee met at the offices of
    Dorsey Whitney in Minneapolis on May 2nd and
    3rd to
  • Address the specific motions passed at the March
    PatCom meeting.
  • Address other problematic issues in the documents
    that had repeatedly arisen, e.g.,
  • This assurance shall be provided without
    coercion.
  • These results were delivered to the Extended
    Drafting Committee for their comments and
    suggestions.
  • The Core Drafting Committee met multiple times
    via teleconference to resolve the hundreds of
    comments and suggestions made on the documents.

PatCom Meeting
  • The PatCom meeting was again well attended by
    guests from many high profile IT and TeleComm
    companies.
  • The meeting ran from 830 AM until 700 PM.
  • A highly interactive discussion was once again
    held on each of proposed areas of change.
  • The four documents previously identified were
    discussed.

Moving Forward
  • The ad hoc Drafting Committee was reconstituted
    to continue working through identified issues.
  • The group will continue to use the PP-dialog
    e-mail reflector and web site
    http//grouper.ieee.org/groups/pp-dialogto
    distribute drafts and comments to the committee
    and other interested parties.
  • PatCom will meet for a full day on the Tuesday
    (September 12th) prior to the next SASB meeting
    series to ensure sufficient time to continue to
    make progress.
