• Today we will learn what the famous saying
  Remember the Alamo meant.

• Mexico won its independence from Spain after a
  13-year struggle.

• Stephen Austin Led first organized group of
  American settlers into Texas in 1822.

• These American/Texans keep migrating in and
  bringing slaves with them.
• Mexican government is worried about all these
  Americans!!
• They say no more incoming Americans or slavesbut
  Texans dont listen

• Santa Anna Took power in Mexico and made
  himself dictator.

• Not liking Santa Annas move away from
  self-government some settlers vow for
  independence.

The Alamo

• 200 American soldiers defend a fort (The Alamo)
  against 4,000 Mexican troops for 13 days.
• Although they inflicted heavy casualties at the
  end most of the Americans lay dead and the fort
  was overtaken.
• Among the dead Travis, Bowie, and Davy
  Crockett.
