1
Are You Interested In BeingA Class
Representative?
2
Main Purpose and Activities of Role
  • To be a link between your class, the students
    association and staff.
  • To attend Student Representative Council meetings
(five per session) and provide feedback from this
    to your class.
  • Attend Liaison Panel meetings, gathering the
student view beforehand and providing feedback
afterwards to your class and to the association.

3
Experience, skills and interest required.
  • A willingness to talk to your classmates about
course issues and to take them to your course
    tutor.
  • The ability to communicate constructively.
  • A willingness to attend training to learn
    appropriate skills.

4
Time Commitment
  • Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings are
held once in September, October, January, March
    and May during lunch time.
  • Student Liaison Panel meetings take place around
three times a year about every three months.

5
Time Commitment
  • These meetings plus informal communication with
staff and classmates mean that the role will take
up a minimum of one hour a month. However there
is no upper limit to this, and you get out of the
    role what you put in.

6
How to get the position
  • There are two representatives required for each
class, who are nominated by class members or you
can put yourself forward. If required there will
be an election held in class with the assistance
    of your class tutor.

7
Who do you work with?
  • You will work with the Student Services Officer
and other student representatives primarily, but
you will also work with other staff members such
as college management and staff members of your
Liaison Panel and of course your tutors and
    classmates.

8
Support in the role
  • The Student Services Officer works with student
representatives and will be the main source of
help and advice. You will also receive support
from the students association officers and other
staff in the college such as your tutors and
    college management
  • Training is provided by sparqs (student
participation in quality Scotland) at the start
of the year, to help you understand your role.

9
What you can get out of it
  • If you attend three out of the five SRC meetings
and the training at the start of the year, you
will receive a certificate showing your
fulfilment of the role. This will be presented by
the Depute Principal at a celebratory meal held
at the end of the session.

10
What you can get out of it
  • Development of skills such as confidence, time
    management, organisational skills and
    responsibility
  • A sense of satisfaction and achievement from the
    work you have done.
  • Build new friendships.

11
What can it lead to
  • The opportunity to become an association officer
and sit on college committees with staff and
    management.
  • A greater understanding of your course and the
    college.
  • Possible improved job prospects because you can
put the role on your CV.
