When To Use Who
  • A person should use who when it is the subject
    of a verb, even in subordinate clauses
  • Example Who is going to play?
  • Who is the subject of the sentence
  • Example The visitor who came yesterday.

Whom
  • Whom should be used when the person talked
    about is the direct or indirect object.
  • Example Whom are you taking to play?
  • The subject in the sentence is you and whom is
    the object pronoun of the sentence
  • Example If I spoke perfect English, to whom
    would I speak it?

  • Step 1 Isolate the clause containing who or
    whom

    or him in and see which one sounds better
  • Step 4 If he sounds better then choose who, if
    him sounds better put whom
