Establishing limits

• Childrens health and safety must be protected
• Children will explore if know teacher will stop
  if go too far
• Help children develop self control
• Develop socially responsible behavior in young
  children.

• Short
• Focus on main point
• Use familiar language
• Short simple sentences
• Children should understand what you want
• Reasonable children can do
• Useful purpose
• Not too many
• Define acceptable and unacceptable behavior

Enforcing limits

• Be consistent
• Enforce limits
• Do not back down
• Friendly reminders
• flexible limits- allow you to adapt to the needs
  of an individual or situation
• Helps children feel secure

Sensory play

• Wear smocks for all wet, or messy activities
• Wipe up splashes and spills immediately
• Keep sensory materials inside the table. Eating
  or throwing sensory materials is not allowed, but
  this should be stated in a positive manner. If
  the child does not follow the limit, he or she
  should face consequences

Dramatic Play

• Wipe up spills
• Put materials away after use
• Respect the participation of others

Small manipulative activities

• Return toys to shelf after use
• Keep games and puzzle pieces in this area of the
  classroom
• Have the children take turns with the materials

Cooking

• Wash hands before cooking
• Wear an apron or smock
• Wipe up spills immediately
• Only teachers should pick up hot items
• Eat papered foods during lunch, or snack time
  only
• Everyone should assist with clean up
• Supervision is required during all cooking
  activities

Block building

• Use block for block building only
• Keep block in the block building area
• Return block to the storage area after use
• Touch only your building project unless you have
  asked permission

Music

• Children select the instruments they want to use
• Return instruments to their assigned places
• Use musical instruments only for creating sounds
• Say only nice words about others music

Art

• Cover tables
• Wear smocks, or paint shirts for messy activities
• Wipe up spills immediately
• Work only with your own materials

Book corner

• Turn one page at a time
• Give torn books to a teacher
• Return books to the teacher after use
• Touch books gently

• Feed pets and water plans only under teacher
  supervision
• Keep science equipment in the same area
• Handle pets with care
• Wash your hands after touching pets

Playground activity

• Swings
• Only one child to a swing at a time
• Sit in the center of the swing
• Use both hands for holding on
• Stay on the swing until it has stopped
• Only teachers push children on the swings
• Keep clear of moving swings

• Slides
• Use both hands when climbing up the steps
• Wait until the person ahead of you has gotten off
  the slide to go down
• Slide down feet first and sitting up right
• Get off the slide as soon as you reach the bottom

• Jungle gyms
• Only four of five children may use the jungle gym
  at one time
• Use both hands to hold on
• Make sure you do not step on another child when
  climbing

• Seesaws
• Hang on to the handle with both hands
• Keep feet out from under the board as it goes
  down
• Stop before the board hits the ground
• Tell your partner when you want to get off the
  seesaw

• Wheeled toys
• Each wheeled toy can have only one rider at a
  time
• Always wear proper safety gear when riding
• Sit on the seat to ride
• Ride only on the wheeled toy path
• Watch for other riders and or walkers
