  be no problem.
• However, nitrogen does not easily react with
  other chemicals, so plants and animals find it
  difficult to get the nitrogen straight from the
  air. They need to get it from the soil, and there
  is limited amounts of nitrogen available there.
  It is therefore important for nitrogen to be
  recycled. This is shown in the nitrogen cycle.

• How is nitrogen recycled?
• Nitrogen recycling depends on different types of
  bacteria
• nitrifying bacteria use the process of
  nitrification to convert ammonia into soluble
  nitrates that plants
• can absorb,
• denitrifying bacteria use the process of
  denitrification to break down nitrates and
  release nitrogen
• into the air,
• nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the soil and the
  root nodules of leguminous plants, such as clover
  and
• peas, convert nitrogen from the air and use it in
  their own proteins.
• The amount of nitrates in the soil is also
  increased by lightning and by adding artificial
  fertilisers.
