Neoprene

• Also known as polychloroprene
• Developed during the 1930s
• Extremely versatile synthetic rubber
• Originally developed as an oil-resistant
  substitute for natural rubber
• Also found in liquid state

Advantages

• Good resistance to ozone, sunlight and severe
  weather conditions
• Performs well in contact with oils and a
  diversity chemicals
• Remains functional over a large temperature range
  
• Shows great physical toughness
• Resists burning better than most hydrocarbon
  rubbers
• Outstanding resistance to fracture caused by
  bending and twisting

Wetsuit

• Neoprene suit traps water between the suit and
  the person's skin
• Body heat warms the water against the skin which
  helps to reduce heat loss from the body
• For this matter a person can stay longer in cold
  water
• Neoprene is also buoyant which helps the scuba
  diver to float in the water
