Title: HEAT WITH WOOD PELLETS

1
HEAT WITH WOOD PELLETS
  • Hamer Pellet Fuel Company
  • Elkins, Mt. Hope, Kenova WV
  • Since 1991
  • GREEN ECONOMICAL
  • Rob Jones

2
WHY PELLET HEAT?
  • Pellet heat costs 50 less than fossil-based
    fuels
  • Zero net carbon addition to atmosphere with
    pellet heat (renewable fuel)
  • WV has abundant resources of wood biomass (WV is
    the 3rd most forested state)
  • Biomass heating technology is proven

3
New, Proven Wood Pellet Heating Technology For
Greater ROI
  • We need to protect the environment
  • We need to reduce operational expenses
  • Use renewable non-fossil based fuel

Green
Value
Less Pollution More Savings
4
What Is A Pellet Heating System?
  • Clean, renewable, WV wood residue
  • Fed into a pellet heater
  • Heats a conventional forced air method
  • With little disposable ash

5
Cost Analysis
  • One Ton Of Wood Pellets Equals
  • 120 gallons of heating oil
  • 170 gallons of propane
  • 16,000 cf of natural gas
  • 4,775 kWh of electricity
  • If pellets cost 200/ton then
  • equal to 1.67/gal heating oil
  • equal to 1.18/gal propane
  • equal to 12.50/1000cf n. gas
  • equal to .04 kWh electricity
  • Source MA Division of Energy
  • Assess Comparable Cost of Wood Fuels To Fossil
    Based Fuel Per BTUs
  • 16,000,000 BTUs of Pellets Costs Approx 180
    (bulk current)
  • Calculate ROI Over Time
  • Cost Analysis must be performed to gain an
    accurate determination

ScenarioLets say your chicken house uses 4000
gallons of propane to get you through one year of
heating. And, lets say the price per gallon is
2.33. The heat yield for that amount of
propane is 368,000,000 BTUs. The total cost
would be 9,320.00Now, lets say the same
chicken house converts to wood pellets. To
replace the BTUs of that propane would require 23
tons of pellets at a cost of 4,600 (at 2008
price).According the Dr Gene Simpson (Poultry
Economist, Auburn U.) pellet heat will yield
healthier birds and lower mortality rate.He also
claims that the growth cycle of those birds will
be shorter and ammonia levels will drop
dramatically.Savings 4,720 per year.Conversion
cost 20,000 to 25,000 ROI 4 years

Key Benefits
  • Healthier birds, dryer houses
  • ROI (payback 3-5 years) retrofit
  • New construction instant savings
  • Alternative Renewable Fuel
  • (environmental responsibility/alternatives)
  • Dependable supply of wood pellet fuel
  • Proven technology of heating systems
