Instructor Renewal Requirements
  • It is every instructors responsibility to ensure
they meet ALL renewal requirements in each
discipline and submit paperwork on time. Due to
the work load of the TC Coordinator, please make
sure all items are complete. Incomplete or late
    items will not be accepted.
  • Process and paperwork are available online at
    http//www.wyomingmedicalcenter.com/careers/ahains
    truct.php
  • Paperwork is also being emailed out to all
instructors whose email addresses are on file.
Please share process/forms with your fellow
Instructors. We do not have current email
addresses for everyone. Paperwork will not be
    sent out in hard copy.
  • Each Instructor and Provider card must be paid
    for.
  • We have 270 instructors who will be renewing in
the coming year. Please plan your renewal
    activities appropriately. Training Center will
not send expiration reminders, complete blank
forms, etc. There is no grace period.

4
Renewal Continued
  • Instructors are responsible for coordinating
renewal monitorings. There may be fees
    associated with this.
  • Instructors are responsible for ensuring they
teach all four classes and documenting this on
    the Renewal Checklist.
  • Completed renewal paperwork that is submitted to
Training Center prior to expiration month will
not be issued new cards until expiration.

5
Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Available online at http//www.wyomingmedicalcent
    er.com/careers/ahainstruct.php
  • Every instructor should read/review. All
instructors need a basic knowledge of our PP.
AHA specific PP are also a part of the manual.
  • Updated every April, beginning 2009.
  • Policies are in effect!!
  • Excellent resource for all instructors.
  • TCF/RFs - please share with your instructors!

6
Forms/Paperwork
  • Please use current forms from either WMC TC or
AHA. Forms that are significantly outdated or
from another TC are not appropriate.
  • The most current version of all forms can be
    found online at http//www.wyomingmedicalcenter.co
    m/careers/ahainstruct.php
  • Please complete all forms FULLY. Rosters and
evals have been updated to remove excessive
fields. Please see example on next slide of
    appropriate roster completion.
  • Students must print their names clearly on each
    roster.
  • Evaluation summaries are appreciated in lieu of
individual evaluations. This not only saves us
paperwork, but it will help instructors save on
    postage costs!
  • Skills Check-off sheets and individual tests are
not required, again helping save on paperwork and
postage! Instructors should keep these forms
until the cards are issued. Once cards are
received, these forms may be discarded. WMC TC
rosters have section for this information to be
    logged by instructor.
  • Completion cards will be mailed directly to
instructor or organization. If cards are to be
    mailed elsewhere, self-addressed envelopes must
    be included.

Forms/Paperwork, Cont
  • Please do not put evals in student envelopes. Do
not seal envelopes - cards are mailed directly to
students in them. If you do not provide
envelopes where cards are to be sent, all cards
will be sent directly to instructor to be mailed.
  • Please submit proper payment with each order.
Orders received without payment will be returned
    to you.
  • Due to paperwork volumes, TC cannot hold orders
    while waiting for payments.
  • Proper taxes must be paid per county.
  • Special note - If you generally teach/order
through a tax exempt business, but then place an
order as an individual, YOU MUST PAY COUNTY SALES
    TAX!
  • Account collections are done by TC as needed.

9
WorldPoint One System
  • WMC TC is currently transitioning to WPOne
    System.
  • This system will allow us to go electronic!
  • Set up is completely manual. Estimated
    completion date is late 2009.
  • More information to be announced soon!

10
Instructor Roster Tool
  • This tool gives the individual instructor or
training site the following capabilities to
    manage Emergency Cardiovascular Care student
    training records
  • Record instructors, including expiration dates
    for teaching credentials.
  • Record class information, including date, time,
    location, and instructors.
  • Record student information, including name,
    contact information, and class.
  • Track class registration.
  • Print list of all classes.
  • Print class sign-in sheets.
  • Print class rosters (front and back).
  • Create additional course types.
  • Most importantly, electronically transmit class
results via email to your sponsoring Training
Center, improving card processing times and
    ensuring correct documentation.

11
Instructor Roster Tool, ContWhat this means for
you
  • Each Instructor/Training Site will need to order
the Roster Tool from WorldPoint for 19.99.
  • More than one instructor can use the tool to
submit course rosters (i.e. One training site can
share on license amongst all the instructors).
  • Hard copy (paper) roster submissions will go
away. There may be a service charge for those
who continue to submit rosters in hard copy.
  • Transition to this program will be a instructor
renewal requirement. Future renewals may not be
accepted if the transition has not happened.
  • More information will be sent out via email on
this transition as this system is built
(estimated early 2010 - after WorldPoint One
    System is set up).

Requirements as indicated in the PROAD Manual.

  • Who are the Instructors aligned with WMC?
  • We have nearly 300 of them!

18
We need more advanced discipline instructors!
(RF/TCF/CD)
  • Do you want to become one?
  • Training will be offered at Wyoming Medical
Center in October 2009. Please contact TC
    Coordinator for more information.

19
Did you know...
  • We are not required to process course completion
cards for rosters received more then 30 days
    after the class.
  • Classes taught by an instructor who has not met
all initial or renewal requirements or who is not
certified in the discipline they are teaching are
INVALID and the students must take another class.
  • If you are submitting one roster and have
students who have completed different class types
(ie - 2 for BLS Renewal and 3 for Heartsaver AED)
you must indicate which student took which type
    of class.

20
2010/2011 Science
  • AHA will be rolling out new science in 2010/2011.
More information will be sent out on this as the
    time approaches.
  • In the mean time - are you teaching Hands Only
    CPR in Heartsaver Classes?

21
Provider Course Structure
  • All equipment must be in proper working order and
    good repair.
  • Manikins and contaminated equipment must be
    decontaminated according to the manufacturers
recommendations. This can be documented on the
    WMC Course Roster.
  • All students must have the current appropriate
AHA course textbook before, during and after the
course. An exception is made for Healthcare
Professionals who have access to the book before,
during and after the course at their facility.
If the student CD is missing, the book may not be
    distributed.
  • Sample course agendas are available in the
    course-specific Instructors manual.
  • We have had an alarming amount of Instructors
teaching classes WAY beyond the Instructor
    -Student Ratio!
  • The course must adhere to the student-to-Instructo
r and student-to-manikin ratios outlined in the
    specific Instructors manual.
  • Smoking is prohibited in classrooms and training
facilities during all AHA ECC Training Programs.
  • Equipment required for each course is listed in
    the course-specific Instructors manual.
  • Adding non-AHA content to the course is not
advisable. The instructor must inform students
when information is from a non-AHA source.

FAQs
  • Are there faster renewal methods for repeat
    students?
  • Yes. AHA has released Self Directed
Learning renewal methods for BLS for HCP,
Heartsaver and ACLS classes. These programs
require completion of an electronic portion and
completion certificate and hands on skills
check-off. It is extremely important to verify
the courses are AHA and purchased from the
    authorized distributors. There are imposters
    out there!
  • Do I need to verify card authenticity?
  • Yes. There are imposter cards out there!
As the demand for trained individuals increases
and the pool of qualified instructors decreases,
people are going to great lengths to obtain
course completion cards. Some cards look
identical to AHA cards! If you are uncertain as
to the validity of an AHA card, you may verify
the microprint on the lines of the AHA card with
a magnifying class. It should repeat
    AMERICANHEARTASSOCIATION
  • Are there test for the Heartsaver classes?
  • No. With the rollout of new materials in
2005/2006, the Heartsaver tests were eliminated
and the books were designed as workbooks.

25
FAQs
  • Are ARC classes the same as AHA?
  • No, they are not the same. A Statement of
Understanding between the two organization exists
that allows some reciprocity between the two
    certifications.
  • What kind of cards should I order for Heartsaver
    classes?
  • It depends. Each card has a legend on the
back indicating the type of training completed.
If students completed Heartsaver First Aid with
CPR and/or AED, you may save money by ordering
only the Heartsaver First Aid card. Please refer
to the module completion legend on the back of
    each card.
  • How far in advance do I need to order teaching
    supplies?
  • Due to budgetary constraints, we are only able
to keep a limited number of supplies (books,
videos, cards, etc.) on hand. Items are ordered
from our distributor and generally take 10 -14
days to arrive. If you have a large number of
items to order (not course completion cards), we
are able to have them drop shipped to you
directly from our distributor. Keep in mind that
all orders are processed in chronological order
based on a 30 day turn around limit (from the
date the TC receives the order).

26
Notes For Natrona County Instructors!
  • Please be sure to review the Equipment Checkout
    Policy in effect 7/1/2009.
  • Many thanks to the Blue Envelope Health Fund for
helping to provide CPR training to the community!!
  • Certain classes do not qualify for Blue Envelope
Reimbursement. If you are teaching one of these
classes, you are responsible for paying all costs
at the time rosters are submitted. The
non-qualifying classes are BLS Renewal and First
    Aid.

27
Thank you for attending this update!
