E-conferences
  • The Romanians researchers presented a number of
    communications to the e-conferences before EPBRS
    and BioPlatform meetings as following
  • -Scientific responses to threats in
    Mediterranean ecosystems conservation,
    mitigation and restoration 15th to 28th April
    2002 ( Spain)
  • -"Auditing the ark - Science-based monitoring of
    biodiversity" - 5th to 20th September 2002.
    (Denmark).
  • - "Priorities in biodiversity conservation and
    research in the Acceding and Candidate Countries
    (ACC) and their integration in the European
    Research Area (ERA)" 3rd to 21st February 2003
    (Poland).

2. Creation of a nationwide network of
biodiversity experts and institutions
  • Nationwide network in connection with European
    network using internet
  • Development a RTD Catalogue of research
    (projects, themes) and researchers in
    biodiversity domain
  • Verification and validation of information
    included in data base of RTD Romanian Catalogue
    will be the responsibility of Romanian
    BioPlatform team.

3. Support of interdisciplinary research
  • Due to the ecological, genetic, social, economic,
    scientific, educational, cultural, recreational
    and aesthetic values of biological diversity and
    its components biodiversity is interdisciplinary
    domain
  • Collaboration between institutions and common
    participation to the research programs.
  • Establish to the connection with Biodiversity
    Information Management System (B.I.M.S.),
    existing project coordinate by the Direction of
    Protection and Conservation of Biodiversity,
    Protected Areas and Natural Monuments.

4. Promotion and facilitation of policy and
research
  • Biodiversity in the Romanian integration into the
    European Research Area (ERA)
  • Institutional collaboration for realize the
    special program's of research and development for
    biodiversity conservation which was stipulate in
    the National Strategy and Action Plan for
    Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable used of
    their components in Romania (1996)

5. Promoting of knowledge of biological diversity
  • Scientists, policy makers and public inform by
    the stipulations of the Convention on Biological
    Diversity, recommendations, resolutions relative
    and European Directives in connections with
    Romanian environmental legislation
  • Knowledge and experiences dissemination of the
    results of special program's of research and
    development for biodiversity conservation
  • Establish the connection with National strategy
    for public awareness, existing project coordinate
    by the Direction of Protection and Conservation
    of Biodiversity, Protected Areas and Natural
    Monuments.

6. Promotion of the Romanian biodiversity
research strategy
  • Identification of actual status of biodiversity
    in Romania and existing gaps
  • Evaluation of priorities mentioned in received
    answers to the first BioPlatform questionnaire
  • Proposal of a strategy for research in the field
    of biodiversity by gathering efforts of
    scientists, researchers and authorities
  • Obtain necessary data for the decision making
    process.

7. Conservation of biological diversity

    Rio de Janeiro, 1992, ratified through
  • Law 58/1994 in Romanian legislation
  • Evaluation of the possibilities of application
    for the Convention and European Directives.

8. Integration of Romanian biodiversity research
to international research programme
  • Co-operation with institutions with similar
    profile form European Union using information
    from the RTD catalogue
  • Co-operation with institutions which coordinate
    projects in the field of biodiversity
  • Participation in EU research programs FP5
    and FP6.
