Who is the GOT Diploma for?

• All other reasonable avenues to a high school
  diploma have been explored.
• The student can meet the graduation requirements
  set by the State of Tennessee.
• The student cannot meet the graduation
  requirements of the Johnson City Schools (28
  credits).

What will the GOT Diploma accomplish?

• It will
• Give the student hope for graduation and a place
  in society.
• Give another opportunity for the student to earn
  a high school diploma.
• Provide additional skills needed for the student
  to enter the work force or post-secondary
  education.
• Boost the students self-worth by assisting in
  acquiring a high school diploma.

GOT Diploma Student Profile

• The GOT Diploma student must
• Have a minimum of 10 credits.
• Be unable to earn the required 28 credits
  required under the traditional system.
• Have NO other options to earn a diploma in 4.5
  years.
• Be a 3rd or 4th year student.

The GOT Diploma Committee

• This committee ensures that GOT Diploma
  candidates meet eligibility requirements before
  entering the program.
• It consists of
• Principal Dr. John Boyd
• Graduation Coach Charlie Bailey
• Counselor Sue Ellis, Traci Honeycutt, Joe
  McPherson, or Shirley Stoner
• GOT Diploma Teacher Mike Scott

• This team monitors student performance and
  progress toward graduation.
• It consists of
• GOT Diploma Committee
• Parent
• Student

GOT Diploma Application Process

• Counselor refers student for consideration.
• GOT Diploma Committee determines eligibility of
  the student.
• Parent attends a GOT Diploma Team meeting.
• Individualized graduation plan developed.
• Student enters program only if recommended by the
  GOT Diploma Team.
• Student and parent sign contract to participate
  and complete GOT Diploma program.

Additional Information

• GOT Diploma students will continue to be eligible
  to participate in school activities including
  dances, proms, senior banquet, and the graduation
  ceremony.
• Upon graduation, GOT Diploma students will be
  eligible to attend technical schools or community
  colleges.

GOT Diploma Stats

• During SY06-07, 70 SHHS students went to
  Washington Countys Asbury Center (thirty-four
  12th graders, nineteen 11th graders, thirteen
  10th graders, four 9th graders)
• Already in SY07-08, 31 SHHS students have left
  for enrollment at the Asbury Center.
• During SY07-08, 4 former SHHS students have been
  sent back by Asbury Center.

Concluding Thoughts

• GOT Diploma provides a route to graduation for a
  segment of our community that has no other route.
• We estimate that 45 50 students will benefit
  from GOT Diploma in SY08-09.
• GOT Diploma offers Science Hill High School and
  Johnson City Schools an opportunity to control
  their own destiny with regard to the graduation
  rate. We are currently at the mercy of others.
