CHIMER aims
  • To research tools and methods liable to
    encourage 9-12 aged schoolchildren across Europe
    to participate in building a living view of the
    cultural heritage of their villages, towns and
    regions
  • To use emerging technologies such as multimedia
    systems integrated with GIS and mobile IT

  • Future learning environment approach
  • Advanced ICT GIS, WAP, GPRS, UMTS, mobile
    technologies and devices with MMS
  • Collaboration of project partners in European

Digital heritage repository and e-map
  • Information online and accessible by mobile
    devices
  • The Old Town of Vilnius has been selected in
    Lithuania, the National Park at the Baltic
    seaside as a vision where e-map would be the
    most useful
  • Children track and record all the way points of
    the route between places of interest using a GPS
    device
  • Children, teachers collect cultural information
    and merge it with vector map

E-guide
  • Based on the information produced by all the
    participating schools and cultural institutions -
    now in preliminary phase
  • The central web portal www.chimer.org linked to
    local portals in local languages (not all
    available yet)
  • Lithuanian www.chimer.lt has started to
    implement local geo-heritage several waypoints
    with texts, audio, images and video included into
    vector map
