Phase 1
  • Develop the advertisement for students with Job
    Network
  • Identify Units of Competence to be trained in the
    5-weeks allocated for classroom-based training
  • Identify suitable work sites for trainee 25-hour
    work placement
  • Train the workplace managers to supervise
    students.

  • CHCDIS1C   Orientation to Disability Work
  • CHCCOM2B    Communicate appropriately with
    clients and customers
  • CHCOHS302A  Participate in safety procedures for
    direct care work
  • CHCORG3B      Participate in the work environment
  • CHCCS405A     Work effectively with culturally
    diverse clients and co-workers
  • Additionally, they must complete the Senior First
    Aid Certificate.

Phase 2
  • Recruitment and selection of students against
    DADHC criteria
  • Induction to disability work and workplace
  • Pre-employment screening
  • Assessment against units of competence for
    qualifying to move to work placement

Phase 3
  • Allocate students to worksites for 25- hour
    placement
  • Supervisor assessment of trainee on-the-job
    performance (against RTO criteria and DADHC
    criteria)
  • RTO assessment against competencies
  • Notification to DADHC of students who have been
    assessed as competent

Phase 4
  • Appointment as temporary employee to complete
    traineeship
  • Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) approves
    traineeship
  • AAC representative, employer and trainee sign
    traineeship papers
  • AAC prepares training contract for RTO
  • RTO develops training plan with employer

What we learned .
  • Allow a minimum of 15 weeks from advertising for
    students to appointment of trainee
  • Identify vacant positions for temporary
    appointment of trainees before advertising
    commences
  • Ensure permanent positions are available in the
    same geographic area where traineeship is served
    for appointment at completion of traineeship

  • Clients and colleagues noticed benefits of
    appointing trainees who have had some training in
    Disability work before entering the workplace
  • Opportunity for trainee and employer to try
    before your buy - expected to reduce turnover
  • Model ensures a competent workforce is developed
    for the future!
