1. Build Connections
  • Seek partnerships between the arts and other
    sectors including education, social services,
    health, tourism and business.
  • Build stronger relationships with communities,
    municipalities, and provincial and federal
    governments to leverage support for Ontario
    artists and arts organizations.

    tribal councils, agencies, elders and community
    leaders to increase the support, viability and
    recognition of Aboriginal artists and

Eligibility
  • Individual Applicant must be a Professional
    Artist
  • Someone who has developed skills through training
    and/or practice, and
  • is recognized as such by artists working in the
    same artistic tradition, and
  • has a history of public presentation or
    publication, and
  • seeks payment for her or his work and
  • actively practises his or her art. Short breaks
    in artistic work history are allowed.

Eligibility
  • Organizational Applicants
  • Must be actively producing or helping bring the
    work of professional Ontario artists to
    communities.
  • May apply for grants to present and/or produce
    specific projects, to tour activity, or for
    annual activity.
  • Organizations requesting operating funding must
    be incorporated, not-for-profit and have been in
    existence for at least two years.

1. Theatre Organizations
  • Deadlines - March 16, 2009 and November 2, 2009
    (Summer Theatres)
  • Operating grants support operating expenses of
    professional theatre organizations.
  • Grants are awarded to help organizations make or
    present high quality work for a wide range of
    audiences and participants.
  • The Theatre Office also offers project grants. If
    you do not apply for an operating grant, you may
    apply for a project grant.

2.Theatre Projects
  • Deadlines Feb. 2, 2009 and Aug. 4, 2009
  • Supports professional theatre exploration,
    creation, production and presentation regardless
    of language (except French) or theatrical
    tradition to encourage the advancement and
    development of the art of theatre practice.
  • Also supports initiatives designed to benefit the
    larger theatre community.
  • Higher priority is given to Canadian work.
  • The program funds activities that contribute to
    arts education, public participation and
    community involvement in the arts in Ontario.

3. Playwright Residency Program
  • Deadline - April 1, 2009
  • Supports professional playwright residencies at
    professional Ontario theatre companies for
    between 6 and 20 weeks.
  • Primary objective is to give playwrights an
    opportunity to take advantage of the environment
    of the theatre while they create new work.
  • Secondary objective is to provide an opportunity
    for playwrights to become familiar with
    technical, dramaturgical and other aspects of
    theatre production.
  • Program funds residency weeks at 500 per week.
    Minimum grant for 6 weeks (3,000), and maximum
    for 20 weeks (10,000).

4. Theatre Creators Reserve
  • Deadline Applications accepted from September
    2009 to February 2010
  • Supports professional theatre creators as well as
    informal collectives in creating new work.
  • Aims to reflect the range of artistic practices
    in the theatre community and to support
    excellence, regional activity, cultural diversity
    and Aboriginal identity.
  • Grants are based on the recommendation of an
    Ontario theatre company that has been designated
    as a third-party recommender by the OAC.
  • Minimum amount you may apply for is 1,000
  • Maximum amount you many apply for is 5,000.

Tips for Better Grants
  • Thoroughly read the application and guidelines.
  • Call the Program Officer well before the deadline
    if you have questions.
  • Tap into existing networks and find out if others
    have been funded through the program before. Ask
    for advice.
  • Write with the passion you have for the project.
  • Be detailed but concise. Dont repeat.
  • Remember, youre talking to your peers.
  • Spell check!
  • When working on the budget, start with expenses.
    Plan A.
  • Get others to read your grant before submitting.
    (Ask the Program Officer if they have time to
    look at a draft).
  • Dont under-estimate the impact of support
    material.
  • If you dont get the grant, get feedback for next
    time.

When do I find out if I received the grant?
  • You will be notified of results in writing
    approximately 4 months after the application
    deadline, whether you receive a grant or not.
  • If you are successful a cheque will be enclosed
    (unless there are conditions).
  • If you are successful you have to submit a final
    report.
  • We do not give grant results by telephone or
    email, so please do not call us or email us for
    this information.
  • The program officer can provide feedback.
