Quality Tools
  • Brainstorming we shouted out every ideas about
air pollution and wrote them on the board.
  • Matrix diagram The matrix is an evolution and
decision tool. By using it, we came to a point
that fuels and motor vehicles pollute the air.
  • Fishbone After we decided our problem, we asked
why does this happen? to find the causes.

Quality Tools
  • Brainstorming
  • What are the sources of air pollution?
  • 1) Factory gases
  • 2) Exhaust gases from motor vehicles
  • 3) Deodorants and sprays
  • 4) Fossil fuels
  • 5) Destruction of forests

B. Matris Diyagrami
We gave points to reasons from the most important
one to least important one. At the end, we came
to point that exhaust gases ( 29 points ) from
motor vehicles are major sources of air
pollution. Then we asked ourselves this question
Why people do not use cars that arent polluted
air?

SOLUTIONS
  • Introducing environmental friendly motor vehicles
    to people.
  • Preparing presentations about environmental
    friendly motor
  • Giving information about alternative fuels which
    are environmental friendly.

9
What can you do to reduce air pollution?
  • Steps You Can Take to Reduce Air Pollution
  • ( Steps for Your Car )
  • Drive Smart. Go easy on the brakes and gas pedal,
avoid hard accelerations, reduce time spent
idling and unload the junk in your trunk.
  • Keep your car well tuned. A well-maintained car
is more fuel efficient, more reliable and safer!
  • Check tire pressure regularly. Under inflation
causes increased wear and decreased gas mileage.
  • Give your car a break. Try to combine activities
into a single trip use mass transit walk or
    bike whenever possible.

10
  • Use unleaded fuels for your motor vehicles.
  • When buying a new vehicle, make a smart choice.
Think of what you need, if it isnt necessary do
    not buy a big car.
  • Use the car air conditioner sparingly. It
consumes extra fuel, adding to emissions while
leaking florocarbons which cause ozone depletion.
  • Maintain your car. Keep the engine properly tuned
and the tyres at the right pressure.

11
  • Keep tires properly inflated, saving fuel and
reducing emissions. An estimated 50 of tires on
    the road are under inflated.
  • Decrease idle time. Idling wastes fuel and
    increases emissions.
  • Dispose of used engine oil at recycling stations
and clean up spills promptly. Even small amounts
of oil from driveway spills and improper
homeowner disposal can wash into and contaminate
    local waterways during rainstorms.

12
  • Keep the car tuned. Exhaust fumes contribute to
smog and airborne nitrogen compounds that wash
back to the ground in rain or snow and into
waters flowing into the Bay. Cars emit over 34
of the nitrogen oxide in our air and are
responsible for one-fourth of all nitrogen
    compounds that enter the Bay.
  • Purchase a fuel-efficient vehicle. While reducing
the economics of ownership, you will be reducing
consumption of fuel and thus lessening emissions.

13
Questionnaire
  • One of the way to
make our car environmental- friendly using
    alternative fuels.
  • We applied the questionnaire to our
teachers and asked the following questions.
  • Questions
  • Which fuel do you use?
  • Would you use a fuel 50 more expensive but
suitable for environment protection? Why/ why
    not?
  • What do you think about hydrogen energy?

14
  • School Principle Nilgün Akalin
  • 1)Unleaded fuel- because it gives less harm to
    environment
  • 2)yes.
  • Geography teacher Leyla Coskun
  • 1)Unleaded fuel-she doesnt want to pollute air
  • 2)yes.
  • Mathematics Teacher Baris Ülgezen
  • 1)Unleaded fuel- because it is appropriate his
    car
  • 2) No. Because it is expensive and it should be
    more cheaper.

DIARY
  • 29.11.2005
  • Our teachers told us about Seagulls
Project for the first time. They explained us
    procedure of the project.
  • 16.12.2005
  • Our teachers showed us last year project
from the web. Then, they told us quality tools
and explained how we could use them in our
projects. Then we made a brainstorming about
reasons of air pollution. For decision, we used
matrix diagram, decided our project name.
  • 19. 12. 2005
  • We made a library search about environment
friendly vehicles and shared our information.
  • 02. 03. 2006
  • We shared the information and ides which we
obtained after the research we made we decided to
prepare a questionnaire concerning fuels. We
decided to apply the questionnaire our teachers
    to speed it up.

20
  • 04.03.2006
  • Our friend, Fuat Can Ertan who is responsible
for the web design and our teacher, Ms. Taspinar
went to the microsoft building to receive web
    education.
  • 27.03. 2006
  • Fuat Can told us about the web education and
assesment criteria that he had received. We
discussed about the results of the questionarrie.
  • 01. 04. 2006
  • Our friend, Fuat Can Ertan and our teacher,
Ms. Taspinar went to the microsoft building to
receive web education for the second time.

21
  • 06.04. 2006
  • Fuat Can and Ms. Taspinar told us about the
web education they received on Saturday. They
informed us about the things the other schools
had done. Our teacher showed us our effects and
we decided to intensify on them. First of all, we
decided to identify a name for our team. We had a
slogan but we still didn't have a team name.
First of all, we decided to name our team as
Blue Sky in accordance with the first topic we
dealt with, which was air pollution
  • 13.04.2006
  • We made a library research and eliminated
the articles we found. We chose the articles
which we would add on the web site. Now, the only
thing left behind was a PowerPoint presentation.
  • 20.04. 2006
  • After our friend, Hakan had completed the
PowerPoint presentation, we gave all the
information to him so that he would transfer them
    into our website.
