6
What is the purpose of the enhanced LMI
initiative?
  • Rapid increase in quantities of labour market
    information
  • But few resources to support use of that
    information
  • Career practitioners need help to locate and use
    labour market information
  • Individuals need more access to labour market
    information
  • Enhanced source data is needed to support info
    needs
  • Standards for assessing and using available LMI
    are required

7
Labour market information - a functional
definition . . .
  • Any information which contributes to the smooth
    functioning of the labour market
  • and which facilitates the matching of labour
    market supply and demand
  • Includes demographic, social, economic and
industrial information on current and future
labour market demand, on the characteristics of
available supply, and on conditions which may
effect the interaction of the two
  • Career counseling and the electronic labour
    exchange both facilitate job/worker matches
  • though much less immediate, the careers
curriculum in a secondary school has the same end
objective as the electronic labour exchange
