Whats a WIKI?
1994 Ward Cunningham Wiki term from buses at
Honolulu Airport meaning fast, quick
aka. Web pages in minutes with minimal skills
needed.
You can make a wiki using the Basic Directions
link. I recommend Wikispaces. It seems to have
better graphic capabilities, and comments dont
show unless you click on them. All educational
wikis should be private or by invitation only,
never public. All of the wikis I listed have
educational wikis as a separate option. The
three I listed are free. Sally _at_ Sabino

New Standards Built on Nine Common Beliefs
Standards for the 21st-Century Learner offer
vision for teaching and learning to both guide
and beckon our profession as education leaders.
They will both shape the library program and
serve as a tool for library media specialists to
use to shape the learning of students in the
school. http//www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools

  • The following correlations are made to help
library media specialists match their previous
knowledge of nine AASL Standards to the four new
standards through a correlation process between
"Indicators" from the 1998 Standards and "Skills"
from the 2007 Standards. Although this only
addresses skills, attention should also be given
    to the "Dispositions," "Responsibilities," and
    "Self-Assessments" outlined in the new
    standards.

Evidence-based Practice
  • The TUSD Assessment Wiki
  • A place to gather information and organize data
  • for evidence based practice.
  • The plan this year is to create an online pre
and post-test based on the Trails model for 2nd,
    4th, 7th, and 9th grades.
  • We have already discussed this with
Accountability and Research. If we can get them
the test questions they can help us create the
    test.
  • The link to Trails, a free assessment, is on
    the wiki.
  • We need a PD day in August to solicit
questions, and get the committee working on the
    tests.
  • TUSD Assessment Wiki - http//tusdassessment.wikis
    paces.com/

If you want to join either wiki, use the password
tusdlib or Email sally.dooley_at_tusd1.org for an
invitation. The Other Cool Tools page is a place
that we can start collecting tools/products that
we can share with teachers and students.

A Quote to Keep in Mind
  • A Framework for Learning
  • Not only is the content landscape changing, but
the skill set is changing too. There are numerous
interpretations of 21st century skill sets but
all tend to boil down to 4 categories of skills
and understandings that students need to develop
  • Inquiry, Research, and Information Literacy
  • Digital Citizenship and Personal Learning
    Networks
  • Communication and Collaboration in a Global World
  • Creativity, Inventive and Critical Thinking, and
    Design

Summer 2008Fitting Remarks by our New
District Leader
  • .. the educational landscape is changing.  A
flat world and a global economy that puts a
premium on creativity and innovation, along with
digital native students, require us to consider
new ends or outcomes, a progressive curriculum,
and 21st century teaching strategies to produce
those ends if we are to be a District of first
choice.  After only a few weeks of officially
being on the job, I am convinced that together we
can design and transform the District into a
    model for 21st century education.
