5
Where does it originate from?
  • It comes from E-Learning Strategy developed by
    the three NW SHA.
  • One of the key strategic aims in the strategy was
to lead the procurement of a Virtual Learning
    Environment

6
Who will use it?
  • Individuals
  • Managers
  • Organisations

7
Why do we need one?
  • The need to offer increased and more flexible
access to learning. These systems can provide
24/7 accesses to learning resources. Learning
delivery will be exaggerated with the demand that
will be generated from the KSF/ Agenda for change.

8
Where are we up to?
  • A company called Teknical has won the contract to
deliver the VLE and LMS across the three
    northwest SHAs.
  • We are approaching this as a Local Health
    Community.

9
Our Proposal?
  • There was certain criteria that trusts have to
meet to be successful in their bid.
  • There was a need to involve various Stakeholders
across the community such as TD Leads, HR Leads
and IT leads, to ensure we were ready to submit
    our proposals.

10
Criteria?
  • Senior Management Buy In
  • Readiness to undertake this sort of Learning
  • IT Infrastructure
  • Investment

11
Have we been successful?
  • We have been accepted as Part of the 1st Wave
    roll out.

12
What investment is needed?
  • E-Learning Developers (2 Posts)
  • Time and Effort
  • Collaboration between trusts.
  • Training for Staff

14
Which System will I use?
VLE
ESR
EKSF
15
Some organisations may have purchased this
system to catalogue learning development
activities available to staff and book staff onto
training B
EKSF
ATL All-Time Learning System (LMS/Training
Database)
Data pushed via data link to populate staff
details
To push data from IPS to EKSF is a chargeable
service from ISOFT
Current IPS system
16
VLE
If VLE is accessed from EKSF and the user is
already registered within the VLE an auto login
system will eventually be available B
Learner completes a form that will send back
information in relation to e-learning completed
and stored into EKSF
Initially access to appropriate e-learning gained
via hyperlink Once into the VLE there is a
searchable catalogue of learning
EKSF
17
VLE
At the very least Will export e-learning
specific data course completion etcin a
format that ESR will be able to import
Hyper-links minimum level of communication
The intention is that EKSF ESR will be a fully
integrated system by 2008
ESR Training Module
EKSF
Currently, only a handful of early implementers
are using ESR To date it will have basic
activity course booking functionality B
18
To link such systems will incur costs and require
appropriate skills/resources from within
organisations who wish to migrate historical
data N
In-House Training Databases such as Bespoke
internal systems

EKSF
When am I likely to use the ESR system?
The training department in the 3 Liverpool PCTs
and RLBUHT will use the ESR as Learning
Management System to coordinate training and run
reports.
Individuals will use the system to view payslips
and change basic details.
23
Conclusion?
  • The VLE will not make classroom learning
redundant and will take a substantial amount of
time to change a culture, however it has the
potential to change training delivery for years
    to come.
