Getting Started
  • Get your students energized around a photo
    project
  • It takes a few cameras, time and some FREE
    software!

Basic Tools
  • Digital camera w/3-5 Mega pixels
  • Optical Zoom
  • Flash memory 128-256 Mb
  • Tripod
  • USB cable
  • Computer for transfer
  • Editing software like Canon Creative or Photoshop
    Elements

Provide students with basic camera instructions
  • Get on the same level as your subject
  • Shoot w/greatest possible light, outside is best
  • Use a tripod to minimize motion
  • Instead of zooming, move in closer
  • Shoot the same subject from multiple angles
  • Take lots of pictures

Transfer pictures to computer
  • Use USB cable or docking station
  • Use Windows XP Camera and Scanner Wizard
  • Create picture folder, assign each group of
    pictures a unique name
  • Download all, then view and eliminate less than
    terrific shots

Editing Process
  • Use photo editing software to crop, brighten or
    darken, change contrast, enhance photos
  • Always save the edited photos with a new name,

  • Plan the story you will tell, choose photos

Photo Story 3 Free and Fun
  • Launch Photo Story 3, begin a new project
  • Import your pictures, rearrange with the arrows
    on right
  • Crop to remove black borders
  • Right click and edit to quick fix contrast, color
    level and red eye
  • Rotate when necessary
  • Scrutinize each picture
  • Check out the HELP files

Adding Text
  • Choose each picture to add text
  • Position text left, center, or right then top,
    middle, or bottom of picture
  • Use the font tool to choose font, color, and size
  • You can also change the effect on each picture on
    the left, ex. Chalk and charcoal, negative.
    After the initial inserting and editing, choose
    Next.

Customize Motion
  • Photostory3 adds the semblance of motion by
    determining the starting and stopping movement
    point on each shot
  • If you have added text, you may need to changed
    the picture duration under Motion and Duration
  • On the back tab, Transitions (similar to
    PowerPoint can be added between pictures

Adding Music
  • Photostory3 allows you to import music or create
    your own.
  • Click the picture where the music will begin and
    choose Select or Create. Music can be selected
    from saved WAV files or MP3 files. It can also
    be created using built-in tools.
  • Preview and make corrections. Save your Project
    along the way.

Saving your file
  • Be sure you have saved this Photostory3 project,
    then choose Save your story for playback on your
    computer
  • The file will save in your My Videos folder
  • If you need to make changes, go back to the
    Photostory3 project, resave then repeat the step
    to Save story for playback
  • Overwrite the flawed movie. Enjoy!
