2- Green Taskforce Mission Statement
- The Green Taskforce will serve as the focal point
for - providing Green Advocacy and Awareness to the
Fort Walton - Beach Community, to include helping Fort Walton
Beach and - Okaloosa County in being designated a Green
Community and - serving as a central repository for information
regarding - government, private initiatives and programs
regarding the - conservation and preservation of natural
resources. -

32009 Green Taskforce Goals
- 1. Help Okaloosa County to reach their Recycling
Goal 50-60 with single stream recycling
opportunities for residents commericals. - - promoting recycling awareness
education to the members, businesses residents. - 2. 50 or more of the FWB Chamber membership
pledge to Go Green at their business and or
residence. - - work on Green Kits procedures for
continual follow-up with members to sustain
Green Awareness at their business and or
residence. - 3. Sub-committees work on reaching their goals
set by their sub-committee chairs. Avoid Green
Washing.

Community/Communications - - Direct inquiries, suggestions, questions or
concerns to appropriate person, group,
organization, business, government agency or
web-site. - Monitor master calendar of pledged
events - (county, city, civic groups,

environmental restoration projects, road-side
beach cleanups, environmental festivals, turtle
watch, etc) - 1. Calendar-Sign-up member

smart, make rainwater catchers, green building
ideas for your home or business, water

County, Municipal and Military Green Awareness

support if needed to help with Green Awareness

task or issue for Green Awareness Committee to
support. (Example Following the recycling
process. Encourage curbside recycling for all
cities in region) - 2. Survey businesses
residents if they recycle. Pass on results to
appropriate sub-committees to help generate
awareness where needed. - 3. Help all sub-committees,
members community stay informed to Federal,
State local bills laws regarding Green
Awareness. (Help prevent members community
from Green Washing)

- - Provide information for chamber members
public about Green Building initiatives - 1. Work with other applicable sub-committees
to promote educate Green Building practices - 2. Come up with ways to encourage local
chamber members community to practice Green

Promote Eco Tourism. Encourage the hospitality

units for short or long term stays. - 2. Encourage Commercial Recycling
Opportunities at all lodging facilities other
Green Practices. - 3. Eco Tourism Lodging Facilities
incorporate in their packages or make suggestions
to their guests.

members and the public to view. - 1. Work with all sub-committees.

Green Friendly products services.

- Schools Colleges
- - Encourage Green Awareness to Colleges, High
Schools, Middle Schools, Elementary Schools in
Okaloosa County. Offer resources ideas when
needed. Recruit student volunteers to help with
Chamber Events that recycling is encouraged. - 1. Encourage a Green Council for School
District Area Colleges to brainstorm promote
Green Awareness to students faculty through
education seminars/workshops, future careers in
Green Technology Renewable Energy-Bio
Fuels-etc(jobs of the future) - 2. Encourage schools to establish a
Environmental Club to help promote Green
Awareness. - 3. Promote Recycling at all schools
colleges.

- - Provide Energy Conservation Tips, Programs and
Initiatives to members community. - 1. Encourage members public to schedule a
complimentary Energy Audit with Utility
Companies. (Establish a goal reaching out to
members) - 2. Work with sub-committees to educate
promote Utility initiatives products for
businesses and consumers. - 3. Keep members community updated on
New Clean Energy Technology that will be
initiated in the near future.

- - Recruit, Educate and Schedule Volunteers to
oversee recycling efforts to prevent
contamination of recyclables when needed for
chamber and other community events. - 1. Establish procedure to recruit
maintain volunteers contact data. (Schools,
colleges, churches, civic organizations,
businesses, clubs) Establish a goal of how many
ready volunteers to have available- - 2. Work with Education/Seminars to
schedule Recycling 101 seminars and refresher
recycling seminars for volunteers. (create a
certificate utilize Pins at FWB Chamber) - 3. Work with sub-committees to assign
volunteers to help with upcoming events. - (Establish procedures thank you
notes)
14- Future ideas for Green Taskforce
- Create innovative partnerships with local, county
state organizations. - Help create environmentally friendly programs,
events seminars to assist businesses to become
more sustainable. - Help address Green Issues in Okaloosa County and
surrounding areas. - Research financial resources such as Keep America
Beautiful, (non-profit organization that focuses
on and promotes national cleanliness ethic
between business and private sectors.) and State
DEP-Innovation Grants.
