Waukesha County SheriffMission Statement
  • In partnership with the communities we
serve, the men and women of the Waukesha County
Sheriffs Department are committed to maintaining
the integrity of our communities through the
    delivery of responsible, efficient, and
    innovative Law Enforcement Services.

3
What is Contracting?
  • Simply put, it means the Waukesha Sheriffs
Department provides a fee based police service to
cities, towns and villages in Waukesha County.

4
Why contract?
  • As Waukesha County municipalities grow,
taxpayers demand more service for their tax
dollars. Contracting allows for quality law
enforcement services at a reasonable cost to
    taxpayers.

5
Financial Benefit of Contracting to the City of
Pewaukee
  • With budgets becoming tighter, contracting for
law enforcement services has become a great cost
    saving measure.

6
Waukesha Sheriffs Department Contracting
Experience
  • Contracting for police service in Waukesha
County began in 1980 when the Village of Sussex
contracted with the Sheriffs Department. The
contract started with one eight hour shift and
has expanded significantly. Dayshift now has two
positions. One of the dayshift positions is a
    Lieutenants position that coordinates and
oversees the deputies activities and meets with
the Village administration daily. Two deputies
positions are assigned to 2nd shift, and two
Deputy positions are assigned to the midnight
shift. The Village of Sussex is currently
considering adding an additional staff position.

  • All activities are under direct control of an
on-duty supervisory and command staff 24 hours a
    day.
  • Direct supervision impacts effectiveness and
    reduces exposure to liability concerns.
  • Deputies are relieved of administrative functions
which gives them more time to patrol.
  • Comprehensive policies are in place to guide
    police operations.

15
  • The Waukesha Sheriffs Department was the first
and remains the only Sheriffs Department in the
State of Wisconsin to be accredited by the
    Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group.

16
Personnel
  • The Sheriffs Department is responsible for
    recruiting, training, hiring, labor negotiations,

the day to day operations of running your
    municipality.
  • Sick Days, Vacation Time, Family Medical Leave,
Military Leave and other off time are the
responsibility of the Sheriffs Department to
manage, ensuring a consistent level of police
    service.

17
Revenue from municipal citations
  • Local communities will retain their portion of
revenue brought in by the enforcement of
municipal citations. The current municipal court
will be used for municipal citations.

18
Solving LawEnforcement Problems
  • Sheriffs personnel monitor police activities
    throughout the county and neighboring
