Welcome to Print Journalism! I am excited to
present you with an opportunity to explore and
experience the fast-paced world of Journalistic
Reporting. In todays world of instant
communication and technological savvy, it is
important that we be prepared to filter and
analyze the constant flow of information coming
our way. It is also essential for us to be able
to communicate and represent ourselves
effectively using language both written and
spoken. This course will address these needs and
give you a chance to practice and develop the
skills necessary to obtain these goals.

Substitute Teacher Plan

• If you are not completely cooperative and
  respectful when a substitute teacher is in the
  room and he/she leaves your name as a behavior
  problem for any reason the following consequences
  will occur 1) you will write a letter of apology
  to the substitute teacher, 2) you will write a
  letter of apology to me, and 3) you will write a
  three paragraph, 300 word essay about proper
  classroom behavior and respect for adults. In the
  event that these are not turned in by the
  following day you will be assigned a detention
  each day that it is not turned in. SERIOUSLY!

Computer Vandalism

• Any student who damages or defaces the property
  of the school district shall be subject to the
  penalties provided for such offences by the
  statutes of the State of Illinois and the Board
  of Education. The student and/or parent guardian
  shall be compelled to reimburse the Board of
  Education for the damages thus committed. (Board
  Policy 5130.3)

Internet Policy

• Any student caught going to inappropriate
  websites or saving inappropriate files onto their
  username will be referred. Internet access is a
  privilege, not a right.  The failure of any user
  to follow the terms of Board Policy 5131.4 for
  students will result in the loss of privileges,
  disciplinary action, and/or appropriate legal
  action.  The principal will make all decisions
  regarding whether or not a user has violated this
  authorization, and may deny, revoke or suspend
  access at any time. The decision of the principal
  is final.

  you complete in the following areas

Journal

• Journals will be written in a spiral notebook
  that will be kept in the classroom. Journal
  entries are to be started immediately upon
  entering the classroom. Instructions will be
  listed on the screen at the front of the room.
  They are to be completed independently and
  without talking in approximately 5-8 minutes. I
  will circulate during this activity and stamp
  your journal if it is appropriately completed.
  Journals will be checked at the end of the
  trimester for 10 of the final grade.

Classwork

• Classwork is comprised of independent, partnered,
  small group and whole classroom activities that
  are completed during class time. If you are
  present, actively participate and collaborate as
  instructed with fellow classmates, this portion
  of your grade should be 100. Classwork comprises
  10 of your final grade.

Homework

• It is the students responsibility to complete
  all homework assignments on time and to request
  missed work immediately upon returning from an
  absence. All homework assignments are due at the
  start of the following class period unless
  extended time periods have been previously
  announced. Homework should be turned in, with
  full name and class period at the top of the
  page, to the appropriate bin. Homework accounts
  for 10 of your final grade.

Tests

• There will be three tests given during the
  trimester. You will have adequate time and
  practice to prepare for the tests. If you are
  absent the day of a test, you must be prepared to
  take the test on the day of your return. Tests
  represent 5 of your final grade.

Projects

• There will be seven writing projects assigned
  during the trimester. Each one will be assigned
  with thorough directions and a grading rubric.
