  • Provides needs-based neighborhood programming
  • Operate after-school and summer programs that
    serve predominantly low-income, at-risk youth
  • Have partnered with Presbyterian Outreach
  • Will continue Friday Fun Night for kids

  • A faith-based homeless mission that promotes
    self-sufficiency and faith
  • Preparing for the Open House Grand Opening of
    their renovated facility scheduled tentatively
    for June 15
  • New brochures have been completed and are being
    distributed
  • Formed a capital campaign team to assume the
    responsibility of fundraising events

  • Families CARE/YES
  • A community-based non-profit family organization
    that empowers families of children with severe
    emotional disorders. The Youth Encouraging
    Support (Y.E.S.) program provides opportunities
    for youth with mental, behavioral, and/or
    emotional disorders to participate in a positive
    peer supported environment
  • Presented at the Midwest Symposium for Leadership
    in Behavior Disorders in Kansas City, MO. Title
    of the workshop was To Tell the Truth Youth
    Perspective on their Diagnosis, Treatment, and
    Education
  • Nickelodeon broadcasted a segment on Y.E.S. and
    the work Y.E.S. youth do to combat stigma
    associated with mental health disorders

  • A restorative justice grassroots operation. They
    offer training to incarcerated offenders, support
    services for released offenders, and internet
    services for victims.
  • James Jones received the 2005 Way Outstanding
    Speaker Award
  • Invited to present the program/web-site at the
    New Horizons for Re-Entry-Embracing Change,
    Strengthening Opportunities June 21-22, 2005 in
    Philadelphia, PA
  • Presented the program to Lancaster County
    Probation Office to 25 probation
    officers-developing a fee for service contact

  • Oasis Counseling International Befriend Program
  • A mentoring program matching stable, well
    adjusted, higher functioning families with
    families challenged with behavioral needs such as
    mental health issues and substance abuse
  • First match made in January
  • Working with local churches to begin
    implementation of the program

  • Omaha Nation
  • Work with at-risk youth through a culturally
    sensitive treatment modality. Focus is to reduce
    underage drug use by youth ages 9-19
  • Developed a curriculum that is sensitive to the
    Omaha Nation
  • Completed 2 grant incentive proposals as outlined
    by NEBHANDS
  • Developed a partnership with UNL and Les Whitbeck
    from the Sociology Department to develop a
    prevention program for youth utilizing horses
    called Shonga Ska

Psychological First Aid Training
  • This training program is an adaptation of
    Community-Based Psychological Support developed
    by the International Red Cross
  • 8 hour long course and a certificate is issued
    upon completion of the course
  • Will give volunteers the skills to provide needed
    support to others

  • A cooperative effort between the University of
    Nebraska Public Policy Center NETV
  • Examining the issues revolving around LB1083 and
    closing of the Regional Centers
  • Currently working with NEBHANDS in developing
    computer software to assist community
    faith-based organizations in developing their
    infrastructure in order to integrate the mental
    health system from a grassroots level
