Stereotyping
  • The game was a representation of Reading From
    The Outside i.e. Stereotyping.
  • The word in no way represented the colour in the
middle of it. Just like us, the colour on the
outside DOES NOT represent who we are, yes it
may help to identify our appearance but that is
    all it needs to be.
  • Stereotyping An image or idea of a particular
type of person or thing that has become fixed
    through being widely held.
  • BASICALLY Society passing judgement over
everybody (including the minority) based on what
    theyve witnessed of the majority.

Stereotyping

The Governments' Views
There is much controversy surrounding the
politics of integrating Britain's black
community, particularly concerning crime. For
instance, most gun crime in British cities is
considered by many to be linked to black gangs.
It was reported recently that black people in
London are four times more likely to be murder
victims than any other race. It was also reported
that those responsible for the murders and
manslaughters are also far more likely to be
black. Black people, according to the National
Statistics are the principal suspect in 11.7 of
UK murders.
  • SO Its not just black youth, its EVERYBODY.
  • To overcome these statistics we must
  • Support- youngsters going the wrong way in life
  • Educate- them before society influences them to
    do wrong
  • Integrate- involve them in society, make them
    feel included
  • Bring about change ? Which is possible, because
    People we ARE the future.

15
Successful Black People
We should celebrate the success of Black British
People because in most cases they were raised
into a harsh life and, just like a butterfly,
became these amazing folk.
WELCOME TO MY POWERPOINT!!! Ive written the next
few slides with the sole aim to educate you
all-about the success that some Black British
People have achieved over the past few decades.
Enjoy and TAKE IT ALL IN!!! Because as I said
before, you never know when this information will
come in handy

1 From Television
A great example from Television is Sir Trevor
McDonald. Born in Trinidad and knighted in 1999,
McDonald is now seen as a part of the
broadcasting establishment. His clear, confident
delivery and serious attitude have made him one
of British television's most trusted reporters.
He has won more awards than any other British
broadcaster.
Another amazing Black Briton is Lenny Henry. Born
in Dudley, West Midlands hes the son of parents
who migrated to Britain from Jamaica in the
1950s. His career began on a TV variety talent
show, New Faces, on which Lenny was a REPEAT
winner. Within his 30 year career he has
performed many sketches on numerous shows and
won several awards for his comedy performances.
Ainsley Harriott is a very significant Black
British icon. Born in Balham, South London, his
career kicked off at 16 when he gained an
apprenticeship at an East End restaurant. After a
few years he was moved onto a top London
restaurant where he was then talent spotted for a
TV Cookery Show.

2 Services to UK Life
Michael Fuller is a great yet not very well known
Black Briton. After a successful career in the
Metropolitan Police, he has been Chief Constable
of Kent since 2004. He is the son of Jamaican
immigrants who came to Britain in the 1950s.
Michael was brought up in Sussex where his
interest in the police force was encouraged by an
officer attached to his school. He is also a
university graduate having a degree in social
psychology.
In 2005 Johnson Beharry, born in Grenada of mixed
African and East Indian roots, became the first
man to gain the Victoria Cross, Britain's
foremost military award for bravery, since the
Falklands War of 1982. He was awarded the
Victoria Cross for service in Iraq in 2004. An
amazing achievement Im sure youll all agree!

3 Sporting Success
A prominent example of success includes boxing
champion Frank Bruno, whose career highlight was
winning the WBC world heavyweight championship in
1995. Altogether, he won 40 of his 45 contests.
He is also well known in the UK for acting in
pantomime and taking part in other TV
entertainment shows.
Lennox Lewis, born in East London, is another
successful Black British boxer and former
undisputed heavyweight champion of the World.
Kelly Holmes, who won two gold medals in the 2004
Athens Olympics, also has black roots, her father
being born in Jamaica, while her mother is
English.
Lastly, the English national football team had
seven black or mixed-race players out of a total
of 23 players that competed in Germany for the

changed to The Soul of Carnival over time, and
it is now just known as Soca.
