Amazing Planet Earth
  • By B-dog and Vicky t

2
How did Earth get its name?
  • All of the planets, except for Earth, were named
after Greek and Roman gods and godesses. The name
Earth is an English/German name which simply
means the ground. It comes from the Old English
words 'eor(th)e' and 'ertha'. In German it is
'erde'. The name Earth is at least 1000 years
    old.

3
temperture
  • The highest temp 136 degrees F. The lowest is
    128.6 F

4
Atmosphere
  • It is a rocky planet and it has thick clouds
    made of rain and gravity.

5
Position in solar system
  • Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun

6
Does Earth have rings
  • No Earth does not have rings

7
Earths Moon
  • The moon moves around Earth in a path called an
orbit. Earths gravity holds the moon in orbit.
The moon orbits Earth once every 27.3 days.
  • The moon is smaller than Earth. About 49 moons
would fit inside Earth. The moon is 2160 miles
    across .
  • In 1969 humans first walked on the moon.In the
sunlight temputure reaches 250 degrees ferinheit

8
EARTHS SIZE
  • Earth size is about 7926.41 miles (12,756.32
    kilometers

9
Earth
  • EARTH is the only planet people live on!
  • Earth has more water than land !
  • Earth is the only place with water!
  • Earth is the only planet that has 1 moon!

10
People who live on Earth
  • Earth is the
  • only planet where people live

gravity
  • Today we will introduce gravity. This force is
such a part of our lives that not to have gravity
would mean that life could not exist for us.
  • GravityGravity is a force that for us is always
directed downwards. But to say that gravity acts
downwards is not correct. Gravity acts down, no
matter where you stand on the Earth. It is better
to say that on Earth gravity pulls objects
towards the centre of the Earth. So no matter
where you are on Earth all objects fall to the
    ground

12
Moons first foot
  • Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon in 1969 in a
race against Russia U.K. And other people
    around the world

13
axis
  • The Earth currently has an axial tilt of about
23.44 (23 26). The axis remains tilted in the
same direction throughout a year however, as the
Earth orbits the Sun, the hemisphere (half part
of earth) tilted away from the Sun will gradually
become tilted towards the Sun, and vice versa.
This effect is the main cause of the seasons (see
effect of sun angle on climate).
